Amazing Race = Amazing Lessons

When my 8-year-old son and I started watching "The Amazing Race" together, I never knew how many teachable moments would present themselves!
Momlogic's Julie: My son and I recently began watching "The Amazing Race" together. It's always been one of my favorite shows, and one night my son asked me if he could watch, too. I'm glad I said yes.
There are two brothers on the show (Sam and Dan McMillen) who are gay. After last week's show, my son asked me if they were "boyfriend and boyfriend." I explained that no, they were brothers, but they do like guys.
"You mean to go out with?" he said.
I explained that some guys like to date girls and some like to date guys. He asked me why ... and I said, in my opinion, they were born that way.
He asked me how you know if you like guys or girls. I said when the time is right, you just know ... but I would love him the same either way.
Then I explained that we know people who are gay ... and that I had even been in a gay wedding. I said it is no big deal if you like guys or girls, and it is never something to tease about.
He asked me if gay people are allowed to get married, and who proposes to whom. We had a really insightful conversation -- one I don't know if I would have had otherwise.
I felt so good about the fact we could have this talk. Thank you, "The Amazing Race"!
Thank you a lot for sharing this with all people you actually recognise what you’re speaking approximately! Bookmarked. Kindly additionally talk over with my website =). We can have a link exchange agreement among us!

Bravo! You said all the right things. Both of you have learned lessons and are better for it.
