Could You Please Pass ... the LEGO?

Thursday, November 5, 2009

Building with those ubiquitous colored bricks requires its own LEGO language.

LEGOs might be a fun hands-on building toy, but when it comes to communicating which piece you're looking for, they can be a real drag.

Each piece does have a corresponding name, like "4-stud by 2-stud" and "Plate 1 x 2 W.1 Knob." But saying, "Dad, could you please pass the "Turn Plate 2 x 2, Upper Part" is kind of a  mouthful.

Giles Turnbull, a father and LEGO enthusiast, has come up with his own family nomenclature -- actually 4 different versions, one for each of his four children (Barney, Raimi, Max, and Jem), to make the constant LEGO construction that goes on in his house easier.

Here's the full list of names developed by the Turnbull family. Do you have your own?
