Dear Cool Mommy, Can We Be Friends?

Christina Montoya Fiedler: Dear Cool Mommy,

I knew when I saw you that we were perfect for each other. Your child mirrored mine -- with two mismatched socks, unkempt hair, and the familiar scent of Cheerios dust about his person. We were in Mommy and Me music class together, and we knew our kids were there to have fun, not to look fashionable, like all the other mini L.A. socialites amongst us.
And you. You were glorious in your sweats, clutching your Diet Coke, all but making fun of the mom next to you wearing heels and sporting a couture outfit. A woman after my own heart. You leaned over with a sarcastic remark and whispered, "We're here to sing 'The Wheels on the Bus,' not 'Wheels on the Porsche.'" Ah, cynicism: a required trait for all new moms ... that builds slowly with each sleepless night. You again made me feel like we were meant to be.
You had your iPod with you, and I casually peeked over your shoulder at the playlist. Yep. Musically compatible. Could it be that you think "Mad Men" is the best show around, keep up on your current events despite your busy schedule, and enjoy time out with your girlfriends as much as you enjoy time in with your family? If so, sign me up for your buddy list.
There's one thing I learned over the 15 months I've been a mother. Cool mommy friends are hard to come by. You either get a mommy who can't stop talking about the color of her kid's poop for two seconds long enough for you to get a word in, or you get a mom that wishes she didn't have kids and can't shut up about her club-hopping yesteryears. Ugh. You see, cool mommy, you are my middle ground.
Could we be friends?

I want to find a cool mommy friend!!
Im lucky to have lots of cool mommy friends. Even though most of our kids are teens. Its so great that as teens they actually enjoy being around us. Playing video games (and im not talking about the family friendly games) Going to the batting cages and them not being embarassed when I go in and hit almost as good as them, which is a big accomplishment when they are amazing baseball players. Playing baseketball with them. I know Im rambling but I am truly blessed to be surrounded by friends and kids that actually enjoy spending time with their parents who don’t where heels. =)
Hey I resent all of this. I’m a cool mom of 2 kids (2 year old boy, 8 year old girl), I’m pretty lenient but I still have rules. I love playing and getting dirty with my kids. I also LOVE wearing heels. They look great with my low-rise boot cut jeans.
See, you can still be a mommy and take care of yourself too.
Yes, I do own one pair of sweats but they get worn a few times a year. But I definitely do NOT wear sweats outside of my house. Not even to go exercise.
First impressions are lasting impressions. You can’t make a second first chance!
I hope you would not mind if I placed a part of Dear Cool Mommy, Can We Be Friends? | momlogic.com on my univeristy blog?

AHH. I saw the cool mommy the first day of kindergarted a little over 2 years ago. With her cute sweats and another kid clinging to her leg. We found out later that our husbands knew each other. We are now best friends and gossip about the moms who spend $800 on a 7 year olds bday party.
