The alleged altercation happened around 12:30 p.m. in the 6800 block of Hollywood Boulevard.

Los Angeles Police Department patrol officers received a radio call reporting an assault by a man wearing a Spider-Man costume.

That stretch of Hollywood Boulevard is populated by celebrity and movie character impersonators who vie for tourists attention and tips. And officers arriving on the scene found several different people dressed as Spider-Man.

The stopped one of the impersonators, but it wasn't the suspect. The second "Spider-Man" they stopped was the suspect.

Christopher Loomis, 39, is now being held on outstanding misdemeanor warrants in lieu of $5,500 bail, according to Los Angeles police.

The victim said he was hit in the face and arms, but he did not want to press charges.

LAPD Lt. Beverly Lewis sad it appeared the two knew each other.

When police discovered the outstanding warrants, however, they booked Loomis.

This incident isn't the first of its kind.

Two years ago, authorities held a "super-hero summit" designed to reduce tensions among the impersonators and performers.

That meeting was prompted in part by an incident in which a street performer dressed in a Star Wars wookiee costume allegedly head-butted a tour guide who complained about his treatment of Japanese tourists.

In other incidents, actors dressed as the superhero Mr. Incredible, Elmo the Muppet and the dark-hooded character from the movie "Scream" were arrested for being too aggressive with tourists.

A man dressed as the horror film character Freddie Krueger was also taken into custody for allegedly stabbing someone. No charges were ever filed.
