Mom Leaves Tot in Car While She Shops

We're all in favor of getting a good deal, but this is ridiculous!

pregnant mom leaves child in car while shopping

Alona Sulman, a Long Island lawyer who is nine months' pregnant, left her 2-year-old daughter alone in her car while she nabbed some bargains at Walmart, reports the NY Daily News.

Sulman left the toddler in her car seat at a shopping center for at least an hour while she shopped Saturday, according to police.

A concerned citizen called 911, and police were waiting for Sulman when she returned to the car with her purchases in hand.

Sulman was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, and she faces up to a year in jail if convicted.

This kind of reminds us of Sarah Bracamontes, the mother of three who left her kids home alone last year for six hours to go shopping.

Do you think Sulman should do jail time?

No question, she is an officer of the courts, she more than anyone should have been aware of the consequences. What shopping could be so important not to bring the child in with you!?!?! I have a 2 yr old (ie, the monster) and would never think to leave her in the car!!!

As long as the child is fine then she should pay a fine and go to parenting classes. Taking children away from their parents is psycholgically harmful especially to a two year old and should only be done in the most extreme cases.

She left a 2 year old child in a car for an hour!! Thank goodness, nothing bad happened but I still don’t know if jail time would be appropriate since she is pregnant and the jails are already over-crowded. But she did endanger her child and thus needs to be punished, this woman needs some hefty fines, a minimum of a year long parenting class that she must attend in person and probation.

Sulman… Suleman… sounds familiar. At least she only has 2, not 14, to abandon.

SHE LEFT THE CHILD FOR AN HOUR! Anything could have happened. The child could’ve gotten out of the seat, fond something and choked. She could have found a way out of the car and been abducted. This woman is a lawyer? What a moron! She needs a huge fine, parenting classes, and probably not jail time since she is pregnant and has a young child, but definitely probation.

I think it depends, it is unfortunately possible to forget your child. Pregnancy and sleep deprivation can do a lot to a mother. I’d say more details are necessary.
