How could a mother do something like this to her own child?

This story just breaks our hearts. Five-year-old Shaniya Davis was found dead off a heavily wooded road in a rural area of North Carolina today, ending a weeklong search, police said. They did not say how she died.

Over the weekend, we told you that Shaniya's mother, Antoinette Davis, 25, had been charged with human trafficking and felony child abuse. Police say Shaniya was offered for prostitution. Davis is due in court this afternoon.

How could a mother do this to her own child? It turns our stomachs to think about what little Shaniya went through.

Mario Andrette McNeill, 29, has also been charged with kidnapping. Surveillance footage from a hotel reportedly shows him carrying Shaniya there. He was arrested on Friday.

Shaniya's father, Bradley Lockhart, raised his daughter for several years, but last month says he decided to let her stay with her mother. "I should've never let her go over there," he told the Associated Press on Saturday.

We just can't get this story out of our heads. WHY would a mother -- the person who is supposed to keep her child safe -- allegedly do something like this to such an innocent young child? Why?

Oh, what’s wrong with this world? Rest in peace little angel. Just today a man here in Oklahoma, a Doctor killed his 9 yr old child. Everyday it seems there are more children killed by the ones who are supposed to die for them. So, so sad.

I am VERY SAD that this little girl died BUT what ever happened to innoccent until proven guilty? We really do not know all of the facts in the case but already the mother is being roasted by the press…..lets reserve judgement.

That is why we have a foster care system to make the assessment about this mother. Clearly the father made a grave mistake giving this little girl back to her mom. If he had done it via the courts, a judge may have wanted to do some court-supervised visits to make the transition, maybe if the mom knew the little girl was under the radar, she would not have ever thought about doing what she did.

This is so very sad. Let us just remember to act as a community to protect our young. Mr. Lockhart is not to blame for this and I pray he finds peace.

Maybe it wasn’t her own child. A lot of times babies are switched at hospitals, or we don’t know who the father is, or maybe she was raped and she didn’t consider it her child even though it shared half of her DNA.

It may be hard for you to imagine, but many people find themselves in tight situations where they need money to survive, and perhaps in this case the only way she could survive was to sell her daughter. But then we don’t really know much about the case since your article only has about 10 sentences about it.

This evening on Nancy Grace there was much more detail and plenty of witnesses who knew the mother’s drug history, etc. It is her natural child. Mother is Black, Dad is white, which does not matter, but I am saying this to tell the rest of the story. Mom and Dad were never ( according to dad) a “couple”. Shaniya was the result of what he terms a “one night stand” yet he honored the mother as being the mother. He had custody of Shaniya and was simply trying to allow the mother some time with their daughter. Mother is currently pregnant, has a seven year old and an infant in the home. Whether she is guilty as charged or not, does not take away from the fact that she lied to the police and the man in the photograph taking the child into a motel room has been arrested and has admitted taking Shaniya. Excuse me, hotel room. The survellance tape shows him taking the child into the room. Also, her little blanket was discovered by a neighbor who saw someone stuff it into a garbage can, filled with feces. Something very sick happened to Shaniya. The truth will come out.

Any Adult that could do anything like this to a innoccent baby child is a very very sick thing they are not human…they need to be put on a iland in the middle of the ocean sourranded my white sharks so they can’t excape…and let all the pretators live on the iland and MELOST each others that way we would know they wouldnt be out melosting our beautiful babys Angels our Precious Childern…they all would be on the iland melosting each other….we need to FIGHT for this and get them out of sociaty…..so they can’t hurt our Precious CHILDERN anymore….Godbless Shaniya Davis {rip} YOU BEAUTIFUL ANGEL…my blessings go to wonderful father father, Bradley Lockhart And her beautiful Aunt that Raised her…..

The brains of individuals who commit such horrific acts are wired wrong based on drugs, and their own environment. To say i am sad is an understatement. We need a license to drive a car yet anyone by nature can have a child. Amazing how we pick weeds in our own gardens and pluck them out as to not over take the beauty of the seeds we plant for a potentially beautiful garden. Why as a society as a people with the intention for a better world allow individuals to walk the earth with such illness? R.I.P. Shayina, GOD has already taken care of you!!!! Society as a whole has a sick mind, how do we pick out the ones who are more different or a greater risk to cause harm to someone. We as a society we need to pray, pray in harmony! this breaks my heart so, i don’t know what else to say

I don’t belive that a mother who is working two jobs, with no criminal record, would sell her child at 5:30am and then call the police a few hours later to report her missing. My gut feeling is that the evil pervert is making up a story about the mom to save his own neck.

Why are all of our babies dying? We are suppose to protect them not kill them. I have no words for this, it sickens me, breaks me down, and makes me hold myown daughter tighter at night.

Shaniya is now an angel. His father is now in my prayers. I just can imagine his devastation and I feel so sorry for him … He said something very important “this has to be something greater for everyone”. Shaniya dead, children dead shouldn’t be a sad reality. We should do something. Are we waiting to someone to take our children to fight against pedophile? I don’t think so. Get involve, help. Let’s ask for more attention to this. Let’s finish with these monsters. Don’t let another little children to go through this. Do something America. The childhood is the only moment a human can be happy. It should be that way.
