Alison Sweeney's Food Diary

Busy mom of two, star and host of "The Biggest Loser," Ali Sweeney gives us the scoop on what she eats through the day to stay healthy.
BREAKFAST:
I try to start every morning with hot cereal -- something low sugar like Cream of Wheat. I put my own Splenda or other artificial sweetener -- maybe sometimes a little brown sugar -- on top just for flavor. But you don't really want to sweeten your cereal with that.
I drink water mostly, and tea. I love tea. And as I don't drink coffee, I just have tea in the morning.
MORNING SNACK:
At around 10:30 AM, I have a snack. And normally this will be yogurt. Love, love Greek yogurt! It's really heavy in protein which is so good for you and fills you up. And it doesn't have any sweetener in it, so you can put your own sweetener in it, which makes a huge difference. And then I mix it with chopped almonds, cinnamon and sometimes I put fresh strawberries or fresh peaches in it and it's so delicious. It's such a satisfying snack.
I have a Coke Zero once in a while. I try not to have too much, but a little bit. Middle of the afternoon helps me. You're human.
LUNCH:
I'll try to have a salad or a half a sandwich or something with whole wheat bread or a wrap. With whole wheat, the trick about it for me is portion control. The problem with wraps is not the actual wrap itself -- it's what's inside. That thing will literally to feed three people! So if you're really trying to be careful and eat healthy and you're having small meals throughout the day, you don't have to eat a meal that's gonna tide you over until 9 PM. You just need a something substantial to get you through to 3 or 4 o'clock.
One of my suggestions is to share your wrap and then have a healthy side like carrots or an apple. A friend once told me when you eat crunchy food, it mentally makes you feel more full. I love vegetables, celery, bell peppers and carrots. I put them in my sandwich to make it crunchy because I love that.
DESSERT:
I try not to have sweets, but I'll have yogurt and sweeten it, so it tastes really satisfying. I'll put cranberries in my salad sometimes. And then I have gum. I really do use gum as a dessert.
AFTERNOON SNACK:
I'll definitely have another afternoon snack -- almonds or peanut butter and a piece of Ezekiel bread or toast. I try to give myself different options.
DINNER:
I cook, my husband cooks and Ben cooks -- he helps us. It's great to cook with your kids. We usually have something healthy like a lean meat -- no fried foods.
DESSERT:
Low-sugar fruit juice popsicles you make with your kids are great!
