We interviewed two of our favorite contestants, Abby and Liz, for their message to moms.
Liz Young, age 49 -- Start weight: 267; End weight: 176
ML: Did motherhood contribute to your weight problem?
Liz: For years, everybody else's needs became more important than my needs. I just got lost in the shuffle of things. But then one day I was like, "What happened?"
ML: Did you put your weight on slowly?
Liz: It was gradual. I had gained about 10 pounds a year. I was convinced my dryer wasn't working because it was shrinking my clothes. My husband and I got into a huge fight about it, because I wanted to buy a new dryer. He was like: "The dryer is fine -- it's not shrinking MY clothes!" It turned out that the clothes weren't shrinking ... I was gaining!
ML: What would you like to say to the moms and grandmothers out there?
Liz: Every mom, and every grandmother, deserves at least an hour a day to take care of your needs. You owe it to yourself. When you take care of yourself, you feel so much better and you have so much more to give.
Abby Rike, age 35 -- Start weight: 247; End weight: 147
ML: What is your message to moms?
Abby: Nothing is impossible. Choice gives you power. Literally, I had a stress fracture the first week on the ranch. Now I'm standing here six-and-a-half months later a hundred pounds lighter. Set your own goals, and relish your moments.
ML: After the death of your husband and two kids, you have inspired a nation. Do you hope to have more kids someday?
Abby: I can't plan for the future. I'm in the Lord's hands right now. But I'm definitely open.
Congrats to all the moms on the show ... you have inspired us to get off the couch and make a change!
