Brittany Murphy Vomiting Before Death; Prescription Drugs Found

Monday, December 21, 2009
UPDATE: Brittany Murphy died apparently of natural causes, the Los Angeles County coroner's office said.

Us Magazine: Before her shocking Dec. 20 death at age 32, Brittany Murphy "was taking prescription meds for flu-like symptoms she had been experiencing for several days," TMZ.com reports.

According to the website, she began vomiting early Sunday morning and told family members she was feeling very ill. (She was "found unresponsive" Sunday morning at her Hollywood Hills home and was pronounced dead at 10:04 a.m. at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.)

TMZ also reports that "various prescriptions were found in Murphy's home -- written for her, her husband Simon Monjack and her mom."

The site quotes a source as saying, "There were a lot ... a lot of prescriptions in the house."

An official cause of death may not be determined for some time, since toxicology tests will be required, but "it appears to be natural," L.A. Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter tells UsMagazine.com. He said an autopsy is set to take place in the next two days.

The Los Angeles Times reported that police said Murphy died of cardiac arrest.

But father Angelo Bertolotti tells Us he doesn't buy it.

"Brittany never had a heart problem before, so I don't understand how she died," he tells Us. "This doesn't make sense to me."

Meningitis would explain the vomiting, the sudden death, the flu-like symptoms, and even some prescriptions in the house to help alleviate those symptoms. It would also be considered natural causes. Whatever happened to her, it’s tragic. She was so young.

Cardiac arrest basically means the heart stopped beating. When your heart stops, you are pretty much dead, unless they’re able to resuscitate you. You don’t necessarily have to have a heart problem for you to go into cardiac arrest. Often times, something else causes your heart to stop beating.

Not to cast ill light: obviously she was having other issues as well: she was lampooned on SNL just recently about her erratic and loopy behavior…she was reported as looking anorexic at recent events - she was fired off of a movie set last month - and other Hollywood types (stars, newspapers and blog) reported - even in the weeks before her death made mention of her “spacey look”. Anorexia - a poorly thought out mixture of rx drugs - combined with the H1N1 could possibly cause a bad, unintended reaction. Certainly probably not the “toying with death” stupidity as in the Jacko case - and even Heath Ledger…but it happened to Anna Nicole - even without the potential anorexia.

People can have heart problems and not know it until they die suddenly. Look at the writer of Rent. He had an entire sydrome that predisposed him to sudden cardiac death and didn’t know it. He died at 35 of an aortic dissection.

Sad loss. Thoughts go to the family. Sounds to me like possibly a brain aneurysm or meningitis which can cause the vomiting et cetera. Really tough.

I find it disgusting that her father is trying to gain his five minutes of fame with an interview about suspicions he has about the death to anyone with a tabloid mentality regarding a daughter, who, by all accounts he did not see regularly. This only makes life more difficult for her close family and friends.

what about long QT Syndrome? It’s often an undetected heart problem and many meds can cause the heart to stop beating if you have long qt syndrome.

This is the HEIGHT of journalistic sensation and borders on liable for the unfounded implication that a drug overdose may have been involved. You people are nothing more than scum sucking leaches and if this constitutes “mom logic” then the world is in a hell of a jam.

My heart goes out to her parents and husband. She has an unforgettable face, voice, and will not be forgotten. Whatever the cause of her death, the pain for all who loved her is the same. Tragic deaths like this need to remind us all how precious our time is and we should tell the ones we love that we value them and love them. My prayers for Britt’s family.

Well, Rick, it’s more likely to be she took the drugs the Big Pharma pushed her doctors to give her in the name of big profits. Over 100,000 times a year people are killed for taking what the doctor ordered. Herbal Supplements, not so much, if ever. People need to take charge of their own health with God given treatments. Notice, for the last 8 yrs she had bad bags under her eyes…still most gorgeous lady I’ll never know…We Miss You Brittany.

For one thing, this is someone’s daughter so let’s keep it respectful ppl! 2nd, the vast amount of prescription drugs just goes to show you how big pharma controls doctors who control our prescriptions. I have tons of scripts from hydracodone to antibiotics to head ache meds. Does this make me an abuser? I hate those meds but you never know when I will need them.

I find it extremely aggravating that so many ppl. are making such insensitive and disrespectful comments. If you’ve never heard of Britney Murphy why in hell are you even making a comment??? I think that this young lady was one of Hollywoods most under-rated actresses, her range was amazing Britney Murphy went from playing a ditz in the movie Clueless (which she did excellently, takes skill to pull off a believable airhead), to such remarkable performances as in Don’t Say a Word and Girl Interrupted. Britney Murphy had sooo much talent and it’s so sad to think that Hollywood is so plauged with cliches that not every actress gets her chance at her fair share of roles. An awesome actress and appeared to me to be an awesome human being(who among us doesn’t have personal problems if this turns out to be the case?).Stop pointing fingers ppl and use some heart it’s the least we could do when a human life has been lost.Prayers for Britney Murphy and her family.
