A controversial Christmas card has some seeing red.

Gingers continue to take a beating since November, when three boys were arrested in California for participating in "Kick a Ginger Day." Now a supermarket has pulled a Christmas card thought to be insensitive to red-headed kids.

The card shows a child with bright red hair sitting on Santa's lap, with the caption: "Santa loves all kids. Even ginger ones."

One mother was shocked when she saw it on the shelf at British supermarket Tesco. "I just thought, 'What is so funny about that?'" she told the BBC. "I didn't really get the joke."

Tesco has apologized for selling the Christmas card.

Do you think the card is offensive?

Where’s everyone’s since of humor, it’s xmas!

As a aunt of a “ginger” I find this HILARIOUS! I want that card. Where can I get it? Why can’t people have a sense of humor anymore. I’m not talking about going out and “kicking a ginger” but it’s funny. We call my nephew a “day walker” because of the South Park episode about red-headed kids. too freaking funny. As soon as I saw the post I was on the phone with my friend and we were both laughing.
I can see people not getting the joke because if you haven’t seen or are not a fan of South Park you’re going to be offended. Get over it. It’s a cute card and if you get the joke there’s no problem with it.

Kids in general are afraid of Santa. You can even see it written all over the child’s face. NO where does this card inform us to “kick a ginger kid”. Some people just can’t
see the humor and jump into analyzing things.

As a ginger, myself. I found this card to be extremely funny. Seriously, some people do need to get a sense of humor. Believe me, I still get my father was a mailman or the milkman jokes since I’m the only redhead in the family. :)~

The G December 15, 2009, 5:04 PM

Ha, I didn’t even think of the red-head connotation, I thought they just meant “gingerbread” like gingerbread man cookies…

being a ginger myself i feel that this card is wholly insensitive! santa does NOT love ginger kids! u insensitive bastards..

dorela December 15, 2009, 5:15 PM

Where can I get the card?

mercaties December 15, 2009, 6:35 PM

Both of my kids are red-heads (even though my husband I both have dark hair) and I think it’s funny. Some people are too uptight.

Rainey December 15, 2009, 11:09 PM

no one would find it funny if it said Santa loves all kids even black ones. Everyone would be sueing the people that published this. I am a “ginger” and I find it horrible. Why can you people make fun of red heads but you sure wouldn’t use the “N” word. Well using ginger is like calling a black person the “N” word. If this keeps up I will have to contact a corp. Lawyer. Some action must be taken!

Samantha December 15, 2009, 11:24 PM

OK, rainey, black is a race red heads aren’t, I’m a red head and so are some of the other people on here and we all think its funny, you are the only one that doesn’t. one question, how did you go from gingers to black people? you racist jerk.

Some background. This happened in England where jokes against ‘gingers’ are far more vindictive than they are in the US. Basically, over the past 20 years, political correctness has supressed jokes against blacks, asians and other ethnic minorities (quite rightly).

However, in England, the sort of people who like to tell these jokes now view gingers as an easy target, a replacement for other minorities with a level of spitefulness that it is difficult for people in the US to comprehend.

Ten years ago I would have agreed with most people on this post that it was a bit of harmless fun. Nowdays, I’m not so sure…

Nottoserious December 16, 2009, 2:20 AM

I found it funny altho i do agree with Rainey, if there was the same card with black, muslim kids on there…altho the joke would be exactly the same…there would be up roar… golliwogs were taken off jam jars because they wernt PC…same principle?

I have a ginger daughter and a ginger twin sister and I was born slighlty ginger, and I am sorry, but I think this card was funny, and I would have bought it for my daughter for chrsitmas. Many people laugh at blondes for being dumb, thats gone on for years…so whats the difference in having a laugh about gingers??

I thought this was very amusing as it as ano going joke about gingers!!

Lighten up, this in no way informs people to beat up ginger kids, it is just what is commonly known as a JOKE!!

Sara December 16, 2009, 6:57 AM

Never heard the term and we’re a family of “Gingers”. I don’t really find the card offensive…. just not funny either. It’s just kind of a dumb card.

Cheryl December 16, 2009, 7:59 AM

I never heard of the term “ginger” until I read the previous article about kicking red headed kids. I fin it sad that we are constantly coming up with new ways to ostracize one another. For those that think this is funny, please explain why. I truly don’t get it.

Ginger December 16, 2009, 7:34 PM

I have red hair, as do my husband and daughter. While I’m not outright OFFENDED by it, I do think it’s inappropriate. I am a huge fan of South Park and found the ginger episode funny as heck. The problem with it is that people are taking it too seriously and bringing about anti-ginger principles in real life and actually kicking redheaded kids, going out of their way to taunt them, etc. So while *I* may see the humor in this, not everyone is going to view it that way.

Kaci December 17, 2009, 11:23 AM

I saw this story on Yahoo, and I’m so glad you had a picture of the card. soda literally came out of my nose, I was laughing so hard. It’s all in good fun. Is there anywhere I could still buy this card? I want to send it to all the day walkers I know, they would love it too.

Anonymous December 27, 2009, 5:27 AM

dude, I am a ginger; that card is hilarious

Bryan December 29, 2009, 2:39 AM

Maybe it’s a ginger thing, but I don’t get the joke.

Connor December 29, 2009, 8:14 AM

Wow umm…being a ginger myself i think this is pretty funny. If anything it isn’t insensitive in any way. Santa was a ginger himself…so there’s really no harm in something like this, in fact I wouldn’t be surprised if one of my friends found this and gave it to me for Christmas.
