Ronda Kaysen: We've done all the legwork for you and picked out gifts that are sure to please the pickiest of gift-getters.

Great Gift Ideas for The Preschool Set

Baggy Bunch

As soon as you paste your first buggy eye on a funky frog puppet, you and your preschooler will be hooked. These crafty puppet projects from Alex Toys will keep a kid (and most grown-ups) occupied for hours. They come in a version for the gals, the guys, and the toddlers.

Sleigh Bells Ring!

Nothing says winter like a sled. Make the most of winter snow with this Land of Nod sled -- they make one for toddlers and bigger kids, too. This will surely please the adventurer in your little gift-getter.

Totally Puzzling

Forget Xbox -- get old skool with Chutes and Ladders. Seriously. Climbing those ladders and sliding down those slides is as fun today as it was when you played it obsessively when you were three. It's well known that board games are great learning tools for kids -- they teach them patience, strategy, and the joys of losing. They're also great for surviving winter weather cabin fever.

Littlest Chef

Bring out the inner chef in your little one with these awesome cooking sets from Doug and Melissa. With Velcro vegetables, kids can cut the food and then fry it up with their mini pots and pans. Of course, every chef needs his apron. Complete the look with an apron, mit, and chef hat set from Sur La Table.

A Little Literary

A Penguin Story by Antoinette Portis tells the story of Edna, the dissatisfied penguin who's eager to discover the world. This story of Antarctic wonder won the hearts of kids and critics alike when it was voted one of the best illustrated books of 2009 by The New York Times. A perfect winter treat, this book would make for a great bedtime story.

If your kids have a Leapster, VSmile or other LeapFrog or VTech gaming system, a SmartyRents.com gift certificate would be great. It works just like Netflix, but for educational video games for kids. It is a great, cost effective way to keep the games new and exciting.
