This tip from Real Simple magazine is pure brilliance.

The worst part of Christmas -- or any holiday, really -- is opening the packaging. We often get cut or pinched, and swearing is nearly always involved. But this tip we saw in Real Simple magazine may just change all that.

And we quote: "Grab a standard rotary can opener. (Make sure it's sharp.) Flip the package over so you're looking at the back, clamp the can opener on the top-right edge of the package, then cut all the way around. Voila!"
