KTLA: Police in Los Angeles Saturday were looking for a 10-year-old girl who may have been abducted by her mother and taken to Las Vegas.

Vanessa Anne Wallace was last seen at her grandmother's home in the 9600 block of Sepulveda Boulevard in Sherman Oaks about 3:30 p.m., Los Angeles police said.

The girl's father told police that, because of a custody issue, the girl's mother, 25-year-old Rania Helo, may have taken her.

The police alert went out early Saturday under the heading "Child Abduction Regional Emergency (C.A.R.E.) Alert." That's the first step toward an Amber Alert, which may or may not be issued.

Wallace is of mixed race, has dark skin, black hair and brown eyes. She's about 5 feet tall and 90 pounds, and was last seen in a dark purple hooded sweatshirt and black jeans.

Helo is white with brown hair, brown eyes, 5 feet 5 inches tall and about 115 pounds.

Police did not have a vehicle description for Helo, Wheeling said.

Anyone with more information was urged to call the station at (818) 838-9800 or the police tipline at (877) LAPD-24-7.
