The Mercedes, which was discovered at the bottom of a 100-foot cliff in Sherman Oaks, California, was apparently stolen, according to TMZ.com.
Sheen found out about the crash when an operator from a monitoring service called to tell him the airbags in his car had been deployed.
The 44-year-old actor then alerted his security team, who confirmed the car was missing.
After police located the car, L.A. Fire Department officials blanketed the crash scene, but no evidence of any victims was found, according to TMZ.com.
Police are searching for a suspect.
In his reaction to the crash, Sheen proved he's got a sense of humor about the recent barrage of unpleasant headlines that is his life over the past few months.
"It was nice to have police come to my house and for once I didn't have to leave with them," he quipped to The Insider.
The day before the wreck authorities confirmed that Sheen will be charged with felony menacing and misdemeanor assault for allegedly putting a knife to the throat of his wife, Brooke Mueller, in a Christmas Day altercation.
A formal criminal complaint is expected to be filed against him Friday or Monday, law enforcement officials confirmed to TMZ.com.
Mueller was released from the hospital last week after suffering from an infection she developed after having wisdom teeth removed. She is also recovering from pneumonia.
The couple's twin sons, Bob and Max, who will turn one in March, have been staying with their father while Mueller recuperates, according to a source for People.com.
