Here's a surefire way to keep the romance -- and not your waistline -- booming.

JJ Virgin: Cupid isn't stupid. He knows that there is nothing worse on Valentine's Day than a heavy meal that ensures that your honey is passed out in front of a "Law & Order" rerun by 9 p.m.

This column is dedicated to making sure that the moms reading it have a very romantic, perhaps late-late night with their significant others on February 14.

First things first: Don't do the big spaghetti-and-meatballs dinner at the local Italian restaurant. If you're gonna unzip your pants, make sure it's for reasons of romance -- and not because you're so bloated that it's either unbutton or risk cutting off circulation.

Sexy Foods for (Much More) Than Thought

Avocado

Why: They are rich in folic acid, vitamin B6 and potassium. Together these help boost libido. Add slices to your salad or serve some guacamole with crudities to nibble on.

Almonds

Why: The aroma is said to arouse passion in females. They're high in vitamin E, magnesium and fiber and are regarded as fertility nuts. Serve them as an appetizer or toss slivered ones on top of berries for a delicious dessert. You can also do the easy veggie dish of sauteed green beans with almond slices.

Basil

Why: It has a fantastic aroma that has an aphrodisiac effect and is also very stimulating. Add it to your pasta sauce over spaghetti squash (not white pasta) for a romantic night and to get your partner's heart racing.

Dark Chocolate

Why: It has a host of compounds including theobromine (a vasodilator which helps with blood flow) and PEA (phenylethylamine) known as the love chemical, which releases dopamine in the pleasure center of the brain. PEA is said to help induce feelings of excitement, attraction and euphoria. Cacao also contains tryptophan, a key component in the neurotransmitter serotonin. You can sit by the fire and feed each other bits of dark chocolate or try the recipe below for a healthy, sexy, delicious Val Day dessert.

Baked Apple Delight: Skip the crust and make baked apples by chopping three apples (peeled or not). Toss with cinnamon and walnuts. Then put in a pie pan, drizzle with half a cup of coconut milk and bake for 20 to 30 minutes at 350 degrees for a warm, sweet dessert. Shave a little bit of dark chocolate on top and watch it melt in. It's a wonderful, warm, sweet treat.

Garlic

Why: It's full of allicin, an ingredient that increases blood flow. Add garlic when cooking meats, chicken and fish.

Oysters

Why: This is a popular aphrodisiac said to increase sexual desire because of its high zinc content, which helps produce sperm and increases libido. Serve them raw.
