Women Who Have the Nerve to Age

sign up for the momlogic newsletter Tweet This

A woman's work is NEVER done. Nope, we're expected to stay beautiful and sexy forever and ever.

Momlogic's Momstrosity: Men sure are judgmental. At least the men who run a website called Manofest are. No big surprise actually, when their tagline is "masculinity times infinity." Macho men are they.

These fine fellows have put together a gallery called 20 Sexy Female Celebs Who Haven't Aged Well. Each entry neatly shows a before and after -- meaning "after" many, many years -- and is neatly categorized using the word "fat" or "ugly" to denote the passage of time.

Digging down into their collection, it seems Elizabeth Taylor, now 77, doesn't look as good as her glamour shot taken when she was in her teens. Ya think? The Manofest boys also take aim at Daryl Hannah, Carrie Fisher, and the ageless (at least according to Brady Bunch reruns) Maureen "Marsha Brady" McCormick. Seems these and many more had the nerve, nay, the gall, to grow old.

Should I retaliate by creating a gallery of celebrity men who've gone bald? No, because WHO CARES?! Men go bald. They don't deliberately try to go bald. It happens. It's life. Just like (gasp!) sagging breasts happen to women -- and frankly, some men. I'm guessing the men of Manofest haven't aged either -- at least mentally -- they seem to be in a permanent state of arrested development.

I actually clicked the link to see if these guys were serious. I thought maybe it was just a joke or something, but it isn’t.

Don’t you love that double standard? How older women are fat and ugly, while older men are “distinguished”?

And why the hell is Lohan on the list? She’s what, twenty-two? That’s not aging, that’s drugs and alcohol.

Wow, what a bunch of idiots: Daryl Hannah was never good looking to begin with.

Ok, I’m not saying I agree with the site here, but maybe you can look at it another way.

Holywood produces thousands of pre-fabricated overly designed women, who are made up to perfection then placed in a ‘normal life’ fantasy role. This then creates this fake ‘image’ for girls to live up to, and raises men’s standards to levels that just arnt realistic outside of that fantasy role.

The thing I got from that site, whether they meant it like that or not, is that that fake holywood image is just that, fake. It wears off in time, and after all that even the holywood stars are just as average as everyone else.

Also, and this is the real kicker, go back to the site, and compare the looks of the older celebs who have tried to keep themselves looking young through cosmetic surgery, and then look at the older celebs who grew old gracefully.

I’ve never seen a better advert for staying natural.

I’m not defending these guys because the fact that they thought this page up in the first place is piggish BUT they have a point. Most of these women have either just plain old let themselves go or have altered themselves in order to try to hang on to youth and ended up looking worse for it.

My experience with “Hot” women is that they are usually completely infatuated with themselves and treat other people badly. The comeuppance that nature has dealt to these women could be construed as Karma. I don’t know any guys who would make fun of Mother Theresa for looking old, just women who flaunt their sexuality. Women judge men by their level of economic success, so it’s not like we have a monopoly on shallowness.
