Erykah Badu Strips at JFK Shooting Site

Did she go too far?

In Erykah Badu's new video "Window Seat," she strips as she walks along a Dallas, Texas, sidewalk -- then falls near where President Kennedy was assassinated. In the background, you can see kids nearby as this mom of three takes it ALL off (and we do mean ALL).

On Twitter, Badu tweeted that "there were children there. i prayed they wouldnt b traumatized."

Badu tweeted that when her 5-year-old heard about the video, "she looked at me with a blank face and replied ok mama can i have another pudding?"

What do you think of this controversial music video? Artistic genius ... or crossing the line?

she’s a weirdo; hats and all.

Meh, sounds like a common ‘ho to me…she should have been arrested.

Not impressed…obvious PR stunt. I just don’t get being ‘creative’ at the expense of not having integrity or respect especially when there are minors around… ok fine, adults can choose not to look or think you’re crazy or whatever…but why the heck would you do that around children? Why expose them to your nutty, pathetic attempt to attention-seeking nonsense? You won’t get anymore of my money RE: your songs, that’s for sure….

Why are there NO FCC Ratings on music videos?! You have them on tv shows, video games, movies etc…Just not music videos. As a parent I am pissed the FCC will let music videos get away with half of this crap on Tv! Half naked girls promoting sexual suggestive images and graphic looks of almost demonic looking singers! I am outraged and shocked this crap has gone on this far with no FCC rating to WARN parents of what our childern are exposed to. Mtv and all the other music groups need to be fined. Janet jackson was for showing her boob, but Shakira can hump speakers and childern can just tune into that anytime. Music videos channels should be ordered like you do premium channels not just a regular cable chanel. Moms we need to stand up and demand a change!

I personally think the video and the song are great. To me it’s an expression of her art form and her opinion. I’ve been a long time fan of Erykah Badu’s music. She is not your typical lollipop pops-star. She’s different and I think that being different makes you unique. In an ideal world everyone would be embraced and and accepted for their unique qualities and differences. My question for everyone is why are Americans so uptight about seeing a naked body. So many images are much more harmful to our children and us adults. Such as all the violence, crime, and hatred that is seen and heard on t.v., radio and internet.

She has an irritating nasal sounding voice, thunder thighs, and a big butt!

“I stand up for Erykah Badu, and applaud her. She is making use of her guaranteed rights under the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights.”

I don’t get it. The song is ok, nothing special. Just like her songs in the past. I don’t understand this video at all, in terms of artistic whatever. Just a stunt to get people talking about it. I am surprised they got a permit to film this though.

I didn’t really see the “creative” side of this video…how many other naked women are there out there everyday in videos that are considered “an art form”. She certainly has a right to freedom of expression but it is against the law to be nude in public but I guess since she is a “somebody” that nothing will happen to her like being charged with indecent exposure. And for the record, with her body she really should leave her clothes on.

Cheryl- they didn’t have a permit. i live in dallas and it was all over the news, they just kinda snuck in and did it without any kind of approval.

Linda Terese March 30, 2010, 12:22 PM

I thought the video and song were awesome. Stay Black Erykah

Making a video is one thing, being vulgar is another. It’s wrong for Erykah Badu to do this video in front of children. She should have been arrested.

Freezzer / IN THE CHI March 30, 2010, 4:54 PM

Sorry I can live with the music. Undressing your self in a historical site. This knot the place. ERYAH should
step back and refect on this one. Paid perfomace is one thing, butt I should get a chance to know when the show starts in public. Art and taste is a fine line. Still got mad love for you.

Humam AbdulMalik March 31, 2010, 3:10 PM

It was alright for our women men and children to be paraded in the nude on the auction block with nothing said, now it’s such a disgraceful act, cause this intelligent sister is making a statement that nobody is listening to…HAM without the pork

LindaSue April 1, 2010, 11:17 AM

Can somebody tell me what the f…
What was the point? Shock value,
nudity, then the site where JFK was?
I mean wow, what is the point? What
did she mean to convey, cause…. I
sure don’t get it.

MumtazTheSista April 1, 2010, 3:54 PM

I definately agree with Mr. HAM (without the pork) LOL, and to the countless of people who, “don’t understand”, how could you?? Ask yourself what you have in common woth her beides being a woman or mother? GO ON SISTAH her body, music and video are BEAUTIFUL!!

“She has an irritating nasal sounding voice, thunder thighs, and a big butt! - Blech”

You’re DARN TOOTIN’ she has big thighs and a big tail! These are GOOD things that our men appreciate and PREFER in our community (thank goodness). I know that many of you don’t ‘get it’, just as you don’t ‘get’ how Erykah’s body is seen as rather ideal by many of us.

Also, if you are ‘offended’ by this, and ‘claim’ to be a fan, then you never were. Erykah has ALWAYS been in her own lane. She does crazy stuff all the time. She will do something crazy again. Real fans know this. So if your delicate sensibilities were bruised, then don’t buy the album, turn off the tv, whatever. That’s ok, and I would say preferred. It keeps her true fan base from being adulterated.

And please tell me the reason why in America, our children are going to be ‘scarred’ by seeing a woman in her natural state (and she was not engaging in any sexual act, this was NOT PORN), but, children outside of this microcosm called America, in soooo many other countries, see women’s natural form (on the beach, in the field, on TV), and we don’t see this evidenced in -BILLIONS- of ‘scarred’ children and adults? For goodness sakes, they show REAL pornography on REGULAR channels in many countries in Europe.

So what’s going on here in America that -OUR- children can’t handle it (and parents do not have the skills to explain/educate their children as to the normalcy of the human form in non-sexual ways), but millions of kids in the world (yes! alive right now!) are capable of seeing things like pornography on REGULAR television and are functioning in this world, RIGHT NOW, just fine?

And for all of you who have an issue, where was your outrage when Matt and Kim, (WHO MS. BADU GOT HER INSPIRATION FROM TO DO THE VIDEO AND PUT IT AT SECOND ONE TO LET YOU DUMMIES KNOW THAT), did the SAME THING in Times Square with HUNDREDS of people around and GOT THE 2009 MTV BREAKTHROUGH VIDEO AWARD FOR IT?

Until you all who have something to say about Matt & Kim, and can tell me about the time you made these same comments and efforts toward Matt & Kim, or Sinead, or Alanis, et al, you need to shut your hypocritical traps.
