The Morning Call: A former Souderton, PA man has been charged with arson for setting fire to baby clothing and diapers after an argument with a pregnant Telford woman last year at her home, police said.
Ricardo Diaz Maldonalo, 23, formerly of Green Street, fled to Puerto Rico after the June 28, 2009, incident, but returned months later and was arrested, Telford police said.
Maldonalo already was in Montgomery County Prison when he was arrested formally and charged Thursday in the arson case.
When he and the 19-year-old woman argued last June, he went to his car and pulled out a soda bottle filled with gasoline to set the fire, police said.
The fire damaged the baby supplies and a wooden trailer, and came close to damaging several other vehicles. The Telford Volunteer Fire Company put out the blaze.
The woman was not hurt, police said. Maldonalo was on probation for assaulting the woman in an earlier incident and had been barred from her property, police said.
Maldonalo is charged with arson, risking a catastrophe, terroristic threats, criminal mischief, harassment and disorderly conduct. He was arraigned by District Judge Kenneth Deatelhauser, who set bail at $250,000.
