Reality Teen Queen Sues ABC for Big Bucks

A teen beauty queen who said she "feels sorry for people that are not gorgeous" is suing ABC for $100 million because she says her appearance on the reality show "Wife Swap" has ruined her life.

Alicia Guastaferro

In the lawsuit, 18-year-old Alicia Guastaferro says that after the 2008 appearance, she has suffered from panic attacks and has had thoughts of suicide. According to the N.Y. Daily News, she claims the show edited and staged scenes to "maximize public embarrassment."

Alicia claims that, after appearing on the show, she received death threats, was assaulted and was forced to transfer schools, court documents say.

In a clip from the "Wife Swap" episode in question, Alicia's family is seen fawning all over her and boasting that they spend upwards of $100,000 a year on her pageant habit. "If you don't have the best clothes, the best hair and makeup and the best tan, you're not gonna win the pageant," Alicia says. Her father says he would rather have a pretty daughter than one who is smart.

The suit claims that "Wife Swap's" producers told the teen queen to "act a little more spoiled" and staged scenes -- including showing a permanent Christmas tree in the home, allegedly placed so Alicia could receive daily presents. "[Alicia Guastaferro] does not receive a present every day," the suit says. The suit also claims that scenes showing her mother completing her homework are not accurate.

The teen also objected to one scene featuring her mother, Karen, serving her cereal. Alicia makes a face and sneers, "That was not your best cereal" -- and pushes the bowl away.

The suit says that Karen Guastaferro agreed to be paid $20,000 to be on the show, but that ABC and Disney never obtained the teen's consent.

Watch the clip and tell us what you think. She sure looks like a spoiled brat to us!

Some of it looks staged; but there is also parts where its her acting like herself.. Really how can someone act like that and not be truly a dumb ditzy person!

Consent, or no consent… You sat in front of the camera. And acted like that. You could’ve been true to yourself if you were in front of the camera at all! I don’t care, IMO she did it to herself and I seriously hope she loses the suit, that ironically is the same amount of her ‘yearly upkeep’.

My mama taught me 2 important things:
1. What goe around comes around: I think if she were a kind, upstanding girl, she would have been protrayed as such and not convinced to do things or act unlike her self—-and 2. Pretty is as pretty does— if you are truly pretty/gorgeous, not only are you attractive, but you have a sparkling personality to go along w/ it— this girl is on the previews for Wife Swap, but I’ve never been able to cather her episode— I really want to see it now—-bet she regerets being a nut.

So, some might be staged but then she sues them over her behavior, so more attention is on her? Grow up and get a real life, looks wont get you too far unless Daddy dishes the money for surgery and Ive seen better looking women with better attitudes!

Whether the Alicia agreed or not, she must have known that she was going to be on the show and that the show can have some embarrassing moments. And if her parents do everything for her, at the tune of $100,000, then all she had to do was to say “No”.
By the way, even if the show did not show all parts of the filming, I would say that if the clip was only 1% true - it was still DISGUSTING.

The thing is is that she is really ugly

This is very ridiculous that a stuck up teen like her thinks that she is owed everything and she deserves to lose the suit and go back to being a bitc*.

Shes not even good looking. I suppose they have to spend that much to try make her look ok.

She needs to learn how to talk

Is this girl for real. At the intro of the show even though they didn’t have her ‘consent’ the whole thing is recorded…She stood and posed in front of her house with her parents smiling with the cameras on her, so she knows what she was getting herself into. She gladly did her pagaent turns, and poses with the cameras ON her. Staged or not, you can’t totally be false the whole time, and everything she said came out of her OWN mouth AND her MOTHER’S own mouth! That MANUAL that they wrote SAID she receives a present every day…who wrote that? The producers? I think not! She should be mad at her mama! And they both should be slapped for letting her act like the spoiled little pagaent brat that she really is. I hope she reads the comments b/c someone needs to tell her about herself, since she is in denial about how shallow she is and how shallow she was allowed to become thanks to her ‘WONDERFUL’ parents! I hope the lawsuit is tossed and they give her a tip - tell her to get a job and join the rest of the people in the real world! Sheesh….

Boring Beauty March 23, 2010, 3:22 PM

I’ve dated models, a pro cheerleader “Miss this or thats” my whole life and it was BORING. Sure they were “hot” but that is all they talk about. Takes them an hour to get ready just to go to Target. You can’t roll the windows down in your car because it will mess up their hair-etc.Talking bout things like guys at the carwash hitting on them, “I hope you’re not uncomfortable but guys looks at me” etc. Totally driven by their looks. “ME ME ME”. One said “I don’t know when you might find a girl finer than me and dump me”. They want you to be jealous and, if you’re not they then say you don’t care about them because you don’t get uptight when you hear for the 80th time that some guy hit on them. If you have ever wondered why a man has dumped a hottie for a plain-jane that’s probably the reason. If this girl got into a car wreck and got a scar on her face it would be traumatic to her. Sad that so many live such shallow lives. Ruins an evening when you sit by the fireplace in a restaurant with a beautiful woman and, instead of you telling her how beautiful she is she tells you how hot she is. ZZZZZZZZZZZ

Are you kidding me. Both Mom and daughter look like they put on their make up with a butter knife. This bimbo is just trying to make an easy buck and get attention. Way to go dad for swallowing your own balls.

This is a case where the parents were the ugly kids in school and they have over compensated with the daughter. They are living their own dreams with her life as a beauty queen.

Anonymous March 23, 2010, 3:24 PM

She looks like a clown with all that make up on!

Bobby March 23, 2010, 3:24 PM

I saw the entire episode and was truly appalled by the comments this teen says and the things she does, she is a spoiled little brat who should have declined the invite from ABC to appear on the show, in the words of Judge Judy, did she think she was going to a T-Dance.
If she ever gets into an accident and loses what looks she does have, boy oh boy, she will really consider suicide at that point.
Shame on her parents for raising such a self centered person as a true sign of beauty is what your parents have instilled within yourself,to treat others the same way you would want to be treated and not by what you look like. I have have met some very attractive people in my life and would rather be with people are are honest, fun and giving, than to be around someone who must carry a mirror with them every where they go..
STOP WHINING and put some of that energy to use by helping others who are less fortunate…Oh wait a minute, that might take away from your pedi-medi time!

You say world peace, talk about bull. My 24 year okd daughter is better looking inside and out and is in the USAF deploying in June that is what a young lady and world peace and looks are. Not you.

amy March 23, 2010, 3:30 PM

in another article it also claims when she switched school she went from A honor roll (because her parents do her homework) to special ed classes. Well that’s probably b/c she’s never done a bit of homework in her life, so go figure!

B Schwartz March 23, 2010, 3:34 PM

Wow! These parents are doing a public disservice by raising a child to have no humility. I have worked with some adults who behave in a similar manner and it is not pleasant. Wow.

NT March 23, 2010, 3:38 PM

This is just a way to get more attention!

Anonymous March 23, 2010, 3:40 PM

She was a minor therefore, her parents approved for her to be on the show. Also, she needs to go to speech therapy and have the right side of her mouth adjusted as her lips are not even when she talks. Her parents are not doing her any favors as she will have a hell of a time in the real world.
