The perfect car to drive on a Starbucks run.
Most of us can usually go the whole day on a double espresso -- or two. How about a car that can go one mile on 56 espressos?
That's what it takes to get the "car-puccino" (actually just a retooled 1988 Volkswagen Scirocco) to hit the road. The car, designed by engineer Jem Stansfield, runs exclusively on used coffee grounds.
So why go through all this effort?! "With the energy challenge that is facing the world, the more we encourage children to think about alternative fuels, where energy is stored and how it can be released, the better," Stansfield says in a press release. So what's the downside? Coffee is expensive. The car needs to be refueled and have its coffee filters cleaned every 40 miles. How do you get the energy to maintain this crazy car? You guessed it: coffee!
