What the Health Care Reform Means to Moms

President Obama just signed the landmark health care reform bill. What exactly do these changes mean for moms? Here are the top 10 changes you need to know about ... now.
Are you for or against this health care bill? Comment below.
Thank God! I am a business owner who has worked very hard over the past years to make a successful business for myself and my employees (and happen to make over $250,000) Thank you, Obama, for punishing us for our hard work by making us pay for the country to have health insurance. Let’s hope the Supreme Court realizes that this plan is unconstitutional.
I don’t understand how so many Republican Christians are against this bill. Aren’t Christians supposed to want to help others?
Get over yourself JoJo, if you want to be so helpfully give me your address and I’ll have my bills send directly to you or just shut up. I wasn’t put on this earth to take care of other people who won’t take care of themselves but I’m supposed to somehow for sorry for them and just give away my hard earned money. Oh, and as far as judging me on if I’m a christian or not that is none of your business. Funny how people try to use chrisianity as a way to tell other people to live their life. Should I be a christian and be charitable or should I be a christian and reject all homosexuals? Man, it sucks these days because you just can’t please everyone.

The thing is, if you are so mad about paying for other people to receive health care, you should know that you already are! Every time someone who doesn’t have health insurance goes into an emergency room, they are treated. When they can’t pay the bill, the hospital submits for restitution from the state, and the state uses tax dollars to reimburse them. It is much cheaper to pay for preventative services than emergency services, so you’ll be spending less on other people to get health care.
I am also SOOOOOO tired of people trying to say that this give “free” insurance to people who don’t want to work. Are you that naive? There are thousands of people who can’t get insurance because their company doesn’t provide it, and they can not afford to get an individual plan because they cost too much. So if you are working hard, your employer doesn’t give you an option of insurance and you can’t afford the outrageous premiums of an individual plan you don’t deserve to insure yourself and your kids? My God, this is America. We pride ourselves on helping others. Why is everyone so up in arms over a bill that is going to help people?
Oh and way to have a mature debate justsayin. What is with people not being able to discuss the merits of this bill without name calling or being nasty? And by people I mean most of the republicans. If you want to be informed go to factcheck.org. It is a non-party affiliated website that gives the facts and that is it. Stop arguing using talking points and factually inaccurate information.
From what I’ve deciphered, my current $4,000 in combined out-of-pocket and premium costs will at least double by 2014, when it’s likely my husband’s employer will opt to pay a fine rather than continue cost-prohibitive coverage.
I’m a stay-at-home mom who left my job to raise two young children. We’ve been surviving on my husband’s income, but with that type of hit, we won’t make it.
However, if I go back to work at that time, we would lose all tax subsidies and our costs would be three to four times more. Will it really be worth me going back to work if the first $13,000 I earn after-tax has to go toward health care?
At least that’s what I understand as of now. Even our representatives admit that they’re not exactly sure what the bill means, so I can’t be sure…no one can.
That is what makes this so scary.
I am a Republican and like most Republicans I agree with the need for reform. I just don’t believe our government explored all options or considered the majority of Americans.
Yes — take steps to give everyone access to affordable coverage…but don’t completely overhaul a system that works for 85% of the population.
I’m now worried about my family’s financial future…my children’s…and theirs. I think our government and representatives have made a big mistake.
Obamacare sucks!
Something that my husband and I just checked up on last night was about the military health insurance. Thank goodness Obama wasn’t able to change anything with that since it reaches his minimum reqirements.
Just one of the multiple reasons why this bothers me is because Obama acted like he was going to let the American people decide what to do with healthcare. Well, 70% of Americans disagreed with it, but he went into a back room, signed the 2,000 pages that some leaders didn’t even read, and got it passed. So, tell me, how is that the will of the people?
What is most concerning to me is that no one appeared to care that so many Americans were against the bill, and their concerns were pushed to the side and ignored and not addressed. Instead we had a big show about a “historic” moment forcing Americans to do something that overwhelmingly they were against. And the whole…let’s read it later and fix it later…doesn’t sound like good policy. What is with the Student Loans even being in this bill? What does that have to do with HC? I didn’t like how Biden said “We will control the insurance companies.” The government has no business “controlling” the private sector. I find this kind of talk very disturbing.
Wow, what a lot of hostility. I believe that healthcare should be a right and not a privilege. Many people don’t realize how much they are paying today for their premiums if they are getting healthcare from their employers. It is still costing a lot of money out of your pocket. And if you are one of the unemployed (and there are millions of us), then you lose the healthcare and are scared to death that some pre-existing condition is going to prevent you from getting insurance. I’m thrilled that finally a huge improvement is coming. It is the right thing to do and I believe that everyone will benefit.
There are certain things about this bill that I agree with and certain things I do not. For instance, My aunt almost died because she had breast cancer and reached her “maximum spending limit” and could not afford the rest of her costs out of pocket even though her husband paid the monthly premiums every month. I myself was almost put on a six month waiting list because I’am a type one diabetic and have a seizure disorder, my doctor had to file a grievance with the state insurance comissioner to force them to cover me, only when I threatend with a lawsuit did they agree to “make an exception” and cover me and. My sister in law makes thirty thousand dollars a year, has three kids and does not qualify for medicaid(her kids do) but her employer wants almost seven hundred dollars a month for coverage for her. I’m not saying I agree with all of Obamas health care plan but something had to be done in this country.
Barrack Obama is the Antichrist!!! go to google type in “Did Jesus Christ give us the name of the Antichrist”
It means that I who work 2 jobs and my husband who works full time will be paying for the 15% of uninsured people who know how to work the system. Get a job and pay for your own insurance. It’s what I did.
Anonymous, you know nothing. You were already paying for these uninsured people. Now rich people will be paying more and you will be paying less. What is bad about that? I bet you paid huge $$ for your insurance and out-of-pocket costs, too, and it was only going to get worse. Most people never do the math and figure out how much they are actually paying for health care.
Actually, the best thing to do is say you don’t speak english and are in the country illegally and you can get free healthcare.
US can save a lots of money by reducing its unnecessary military expenses. The saved money can be than be put into Health Care Reform. As a matter of fact, US can go back to its pre WWII neutrality policy. Neutrality made Switzerland and Sweden rich.
Not the Federal Governments job per the Constitution!
WE need to turn this around people. Especially us 30 somethings with 2 incomes making just over 200,000 now will pay 60% to Gov in taxes off of that total [NY]…and….it get’s even worse. Your insurance preiums will double also by late 2018. There are a boatload of hidden caveats in this law we better pray it gets declared unconstitutional and or repealed!!

“as well as through decreases in Medicare reimbursements to doctors and hospitals”
Great plan, cut services to seniors who need it most to insure the lazy folk who are on welfare. If you ain’t working you don’t deserve us to pay for YOUR insurance.
