NYPost: A 2-year-old boy was abandoned this morning on a yellow school bus outside the Brighton Beach home of the sleeping driver, police sources said.

Little Adrien Long was safely rescued after a man walking his dog heard the child crying and notified a nearby school safety agent, police sources said.

Driver Roberto Isales and matron Ruth Thames were supposed to drop off Adrien at the Infant & Child Learning Center on Parkside Avenue in Prospect Lefferts Gardens.

Instead, police say, Isales forgot about the toddler and parked the bus -- which belongs to Smart Pick Inc. of Coney Island -- at West Street and Brighton 2nd Street and went to take a nap. Thames also returned home.

It wasn't until 10:30 a.m. when a man walking his dog past the bus heard sobbing and fetched a school safety agent from nearby Jim Thorpe High School.

The school safety agent entered the bus through its unlocked driver-side door and found the frightened child, who had dirtied his diaper, according to a police source.

Adrien was crying, not strapped in and immediately hugged the leg of the agent, who called 911, the source added.

Cops called Isales, 50, who was asleep, and Thames, 38, of Coney Island, and summoned them back to the scene, where they were transported to the 60th Precinct, police said.

Isales and Thames face charges including endangering the welfare of a child, police said.

Adrien was taken to Coney Island Hospital to be evaluated and his parents have been notified, police added.

Isales apparently tried to put the blame for the mishap on Thames, saying "it was the matron's job," according to the source.

"These are kids, they don't know any better," said the source. "These are adults, they know better."

Adrien was wearing a blue winter coat and had no backpack.

This is a frustrating story all around. I’m glad it has a happy ending, but besides the bus driver and the school matron, the parents need to shoulder some of the blame. Who puts a 2-year-old on a school bus?! That’s just too young.

Omg! That poor little boy! I have an almost 3 year old and it breaks my heart to hear this story. I’d so be suing the guardians on the bus. But then again, who the he** puts a 2 YEAR old on a public school bus, even if he was going to a daycare! There should be a law, no children under 4 years old are allowed on a public school bus w/out PARENTAL guardianship to and from home. I hope he’s ok and he’s young enough not to remember when he gets older. I also hope the driver and matron lose their jobs. That is a punishable offense. I hope they don’t just get a slap on the wrist.

Poor baby, I just want to hug him!

Where was he going..? To pre school then I would think the school would of called the parents to find out why he was absent that day from school, I agree two is just to young to be put on a public school bus that evendently doesn’t pay to much attention to the kids getting on or off the bus.
