Oprah Urges Us Not to Text and Drive

In a powerful Op-Ed piece in the New York Times, Oprah urges us all to make our cars a cell-free zone. She calls for an end to using a cellphone or sending a text message when you're behind the wheel of a moving vehicle.

"Life is more precious than taking a call or answering an e-mail message," she writes. "Because even though we think we can handle using our cellphone in the car, the loss of thousands of lives has shown we can't."

The passage that really hit home for most moms was, "Earlier this month, I visited Shelley and Daren Forney, a couple in Fort Collins, Colo., whose 9-year-old daughter, Erica, was on her bicycle, just 15 pedals from her front door, when she was struck and killed by a driver who was distracted by a cellphone. I think about Erica's death and how senseless and stupid it was -- caused by a driver distracted by a phone call that just couldn't wait."

Our heart breaks for Erica's family.

Will you make your car a cell-free zone before another child is struck down needlessly?

Its easy to say let’s stop texting and driving oprah. How about you come up with a way for people to lose the urge. Because that’s exactly what I did. Auto textbak is a blackberry application that allows the cell phone user to put a customized away message. When this app is turned on, it will automatically send a message of your choice. “Driving can’t talk” “busy call you back” what ever you like.
Instead of talking about stopping this terrible addiction, do something about it
