Click On Detroit: Actress Julie Bowen of ABC's hit sitcom "Modern Family" has landed herself in the spotlight for a controversial photo depicting herself breastfeeding her young twins.

The photo, which Bowen took herself, has caused a stir of various reactions.

"Lopez Tonight" chose to display the picture when the actress made a guest appearance on May 17.

Bowen light-heartedly spoke about the photo with Lopez, describing it as "the double-football hold" and that her new babies "suck the fat out of you."

ABC's "The View" refused to air the picture along with Bowen's guest appearance back from September of 2009.

A spokesman from the station claimed it inappropriate for the show's daytime slot, saying it had "too much nudity." Instead, the actress mimicked the photo by using two dolls. Bowmen's twins recently celebrated their first birthday.

What do YOU think of her breastfeeding photo ... totally natural or TMI?

i think breast feeding is wonderful but to show the world something like this is a little too much.. should have kept it to herself…

This is a beautiful display of a mama feeding her babies. There is nothing wrong with it at all!!!

Please… I have large breasts and you can see just as much of mine when I’m in a bathing suit. There are no nipples showing in her picture, so no indecency. As for the prudes on the view, any self respecting Woman shouldn’t be watching their show.

When I look at that picture I see two beautiful babies hugging their food source. No real difference than two babies hugging their bottles only it probably tastes better and is better for them. I think what she did is good because it will help society shed their puritanical reaction to breastfeeding and start to realize it’s normal, natural, and not indecent.

I thought it was beautiful.

I think the picture is less revealing than half the junk that is on TV these days and it’s natural. I think society has gone all wrong because the only thing they see breasts for is the sexual content - they don’t understand that they are much more than that in regards to babies. It’s sad that our society has to put such a distasteful spin on everything.

I think there is nothing wrong with that! I’m reading this just after breast feeding my precious baby boy. Good for her to be doing it wit twins! Good for her to be doing it at all!

Breastfeeding is great, but if it were me, I’d keep a pic like this w/family. I wouldn’t show this much of myself to strangers?

Some people believe love making is beautiful too… Some people are comfortable being in the nude or seeing nudity than others… in public… (ie. gym locker rooms). just because it involves a baby doesn’t mean all boundaries can be ignored. Yes, it’s natural for babies to be breastfed, it’s also natural that they pee and poo, so does that mean they can have their diapers changed in public out in the open???

seriously, where do we draw the line??? besides, with breastfeeding in public, you can’t avoid ‘other’ eyes from spying or peeking and getting aroused because you put it out there in the first place, so would you be offended??? and what about the transitions when you’re exposed before and after baby comes in contact? wardrobe malfunction?

“Please don’t look, I’m flashing for my baby!”

It’s natural & beautiful! Why isn’t breastfeedimg the norm? It’s a lesson in biology- lots of species do it . People could benefit from knowing babies aren’t fed from a can from the store

Thats a beautiful picture… almost brought tears to my eyes from memories of my babies! :)

The “peeing and pooping is natural too, but no one wants to see it” argument is just dumb. Feeding a baby can’t even begin to fall into the same category.

Interestingly, breastfeeding in public was more common and more accepted 100+ years ago. How sad we’re going backward as a society.

Friend, some boundaries are inappropriate: for example, any “boundary” that prevents the social eating behavior that is a baby’s human right. No one else has to eat alone under a blanket. The sight of nursing babies should be so commonplace that it’s unremarkable, even the “flash” right before baby latches on. It’s a different context - humans are capable of such distinctions. As for what anyone else thinks when I nurse my baby, I neither know nor care. If they’re offended, they can look away. If they think it’s sexy, I guess it’s similar to those who think my Jean-clad behind alluring. Hopefully all concerned can keep their thoughts to themselves.

The shame that you want me to feel about feeding my baby with, gasp, my breasts is misplaced, and it’s efffect on breastfeeding rates and thus the health of our nation is not insignificant.

It is American society that has “sexualized” women feeding their babies the way that God intends. You wouldn’t tell a woman who was nourishing her babe with a bottle that she is doing something wrong, however if a woman choses the right to breastfeed, it all of a sudden becomes inappropriate? Trust me when I say that a woman who is nursing her child does not even think of her breasts as anything more than what they were intended for in the first place.

The fact that we even have to have this conversation is asinine. Some women in low-cut blouses walking down the street show more skin, let alone, scenes on prime-time television. This is a beautiful image and she should be commended for believing it worthy of sharing!

I think the “controversy” is much ado about nothing. It’s not like she’s revealing that much in a public place! That might be a bit much. But I agree that we see more than this in so many other situations & nobody bats an eye! No nipples are visible. Not even the babies mouths suckling. I applaud her for doing this! And with TWINS!?! We can learn about unconditional love & selflessness from this. It’s not about “the public”, or what’s “proper”. It’s not even about Julie. It’s about nurturing naturally. That’s what breasts are FOR, people. They’re not created for tililation. Congrats, Julie! I for one applaud your decision. :-)
