A police report said the two infants - sex not specified - were found Saturday in a laundry basket, along with a note. "Take care of my babies, I'm poor and can't do it," the note said. The police report said rubber bands had been used to tie off the babies' umbilical cords.
Police said the infants were taken to a hospital, where they were pronounced healthy and in stable condition. State law allows a parent to surrender a child no more than seven days old at several types of public facilities, including fire stations.
Police said they don't think the mother committed any crime, but records in the case will be provided to the district attorney's office for a determination.
