The Most Awesome Pancakes EVER

We all know by now that the Internet is a dangerous place. Certain websites should be off-limits for kids -- and first on the list should be JimsPancakes.com.
Why, you ask? Because the website is dedicated to the most amazing, beautiful pancake designs we have ever seen. If your kids get wind of this dude's breakfast creations, YOU ARE SCREWED. Once they get an eyeful of pancakes shaped like crabs, hamburgers with a side of fries or the Golden Gate Bridge, trying to impress them with, "Look, honey! I made your pancake in the shape of a box!" just ain't gonna fly.
The artist behind the delicious designs -- Jim Belosic, founder of the ad agency Belosic|ADG -- was inspired by his fond childhood memories of his father's not-always-successful attempts to make interesting pancake shapes.
When his daughter became old enough to start appreciating shapes, the eager dad began using his griddle as a canvas and pancake batter as his sole medium.
Using pancake batter as glue, Jim creates three-dimensional edible artwork that is eaten by his sole pancake client: his 3-year-old daughter. The trick? "You have to be fast," says Jim. (Each creation is assembled right on the grill.) He also uses a fair amount of artificial food coloring, but he's experimenting with using fruit juices as well.
Want to give pancake art a whirl? Here are Jim's some tips:
- Make like Picasso. Draw out your design before you start. Think about how the pieces will fit together.
- Keep it low. (The temperature, that is.) If your griddle's too hot, you won't have time to make the outline.
- Double your spatula, double your fun. "Flipping it is stupid hard," says Jim -- so for extremely intricate designs, he uses two spatulas.
- Use the right tools. In order to get precise with your pancake batter, "a ketchup squeeze-bottle is imperative," says Jim. (He uses a different one for each color.)
