Single Mom Seeking: Do you and your ex squabble about the sitter?
I talk to a lot of single moms out there ... and one common denominator seems to be how much they fight with their exes over the sitter.
Maybe you prefer the grandmotherly type, while your ex is fine with the young (and frankly hot) college student off Craigslist. Or maybe he wants the CIA background check on the sitter, and you think he's being narrow-minded because she's not exactly the Mary Poppins type.
One single mom e-mailed me recently because she and her ex-husband continue to fight about the babysitter -- especially after last summer's nightmare sitter. The scenario: Their budget was very tight. He found another mom to watch the kids during the day. "She didn't seem very reliable, and I protested," the mom recalls. "I offered to find another sitter, and he resisted, saying we couldn't afford someone else. As it turns out, this women was on methadone -- and she LEFT our kids at an amusement park one day."
I'm sure spouses who are still together fight over the sitter, too -- but it seems to be even more of a power struggle when you no longer live under the same roof.
