A 19-year-old mother from Keystone Heights, Florida, posted a photo of her baby with a BONG on Facebook. Um, was she high?!

baby with a bong

"If u look at the picture u can see that there is no bowl in the TABACCO (sic) pipe. And i took a pic to show one (expletive) person and it was a mistake. I would never ever ever let him get high," she told Channel 4 via Facebook.

In another Facebook posting, she wrote, "Do you realize how serious this is? i can go to jail and he can be taken away from me. WHY would you do something so (expletive) stupid? i know what i did was stupid but i would NEVER put by baby in harm. im (sic) so nice to everyone idk (I don't know) why you would do this to me."

The Florida Department of Children and Families is investigating, and is now drug-testing both the mother and the baby.

Who thinks this mom should have her baby taken away? Harmless photo ... or serious endangerment?

Endangerment! He obviously has seen people use it, look at him! He’s even grabbing the bowl like he’s about to lift it up.

She’s 19, she was being stupid. Make her go to counseling and parenting classes, give her support, and watch the situation.

Why in heck would she even have one accessible in the first place for her baby if she isn’t using it herself or allowing her baby to be exposed to it in some way.

Take her baby away? Perhaps. But maybe she needs to have some childcare training to prevent anything so negligent and dangerous in the future. If she were older, I’d have no problem saying she should be well aware of the consequences of these actions. At 19 she should know better too… but this is only slightly worse than parents who pose their infants with beer bottles or cigarettes… Does Child services test each of those kids too?

She should not get her baby taken away for a stupid mistake. The baby is only doing what all babies his age would do if they were to play with anything… put it in they’re mouth!!! That’s how babies feel & also teeth! My son is 22 months old & still puts stuff in his mouth constantly! Give her break & she should take parenting classes. This should be a wake up call for her! Parents have been known to do way worse!

I’d say she should go to a parenting class for teens.

i agree with the above two posters, maybe some parenting classes, she obviously did something stupid, but i believe that she would never actually let her baby smoke weed :P
no point in putting a baby in foster care, where there might be actual danger, trust me, i know many people who suffered dearly in the system.
to anonymous, he is sticking his finger in there, any kid would do that, lol.
what the hell was she thinking, sigh.
i don’t think it is worse than beer bottle pictures, alcohol makes people violent :P

OOps, didn’t mean to post it twice… sorry - computer issues with my connection I guess
Anyway @MJ, I only mean it’s worse in that alcohol is at least legal and weed isn’t. I have known people who get pretty mellow on beer so to me it’s about all the same, tho admittedly most (not all) of the people I remember who are potheads are pretty dense LOL

MJ June 25, 2010, 4:18 PM

christi,oh yes, i knew what you meant, i was just being silly :D
as a ex bartender i can guarantee you i would take a pot head customer who drinks soda than a drunk anyday, lmao ;)

MJ June 25, 2010, 5:40 PM

i just had a weird thought, are the authorities ok with beer bottle pics and not the bong pic because under age drinking is less illegal than smoking pot?
ok,now i am just being silly, i need some sleep, lmao

The news reported yestrerday that Child Service are familiar with this “mother”. That they have investigated her before. She has engaged in drug usage.
Whcih would explain her acess to and knowledge of a bong.

C June 25, 2010, 8:21 PM

I think she’s probably paid for her mistake 10x over.

And anonymous, seriously! Babies put EVERYTHING in their mouths! And it sounds to me like you’ve had some experiences with a bong as well. Do you have children?

Sam June 25, 2010, 9:28 PM

She didn’t think posting the picture on a social networking site wasn’t going to alert attention to a baby with a bong? WHY DOES SHE EVEN HAVE A BONG IN HER POSSESION? She “would never let him get high,” and “there’s no bowl in the tobacco pipe,” but it’s healthy for your baby to play with/put the bong in his mouth, when the bong isn’t in use and take pictures to “show just one person.”
NOT!!!

I’m sure this was a wakeup call for this young mother. DCFS will make sure she gets the support she needs with childcare classes, drug treatment and education. But the news should not have access to this mother’s file. Everything through DCFS is confidential. This mother and child will need support, not criticism.

Very stupid mistake. I think removing the child would be harsh. Do we really want to put another young child into an already over-crowded foster care system? However, I also feel parenting classes would not be enough. This is a serious situation for both mother and child and requires counseling, perhaps out patient drug rehad for mom (does she really expect us to believe the “I don’t smoke pot” excuse?)and strict supervision. We all did stupid things as young adults, but we also had to deal with the result.
As for the referrences to the people who pose their children with beer cans, etc- they should be ashamed of themselves! It not cute or funny and is honestly just as dangerous a situation; alcohol and tabacco are just as dangerous to babies/ small children. People really need to begin thinking before they act.

How much worse is parenting going to get in our society? I really do despair for the future if this is the sort of parenting our next generation are receiving.

MJ June 26, 2010, 6:23 AM

although i do not think letting a baby play with a bong is appropriate, i have met many pot smoking parents who were better equipped to take care of a kid than parents who drank nightly just to unwind, forget about the fact that the girl may smoke pot, which, of course many of you seem to think is the most horrible thing ever, i bet none of you think twice about cigarette smoking parents smoking in the house around kids, now there is something that should never ever be done.
and jane, please, other generations were not much better, women drank and smoked while pregnant, parents beat their kids in the name of discipline, so do not get all high and mighty.
the problem here is not what the girl smokes in her free time, but that she was silly enough to post something like that. f it had been in europe or canada, people might not have made such a huge deal, but she has to realize that some people in the states equate weed with crack, ridiculous, but that is the way it is.

This is child abuse. This “mother” should be in prison not only for illicit substances, but also for abusing her innocent baby. And make no mistake, this child has most probably been exposed to second hand thc in her smoke. Has this child been taken to a hospital for evaluation and testing his blood toxicology?
This is a very serious wake-up call to everyone. Especially when there are those in our society who are pushing for the legalization of this mind altering drug. My answer to anyone who pushes the ‘merits’ of marijuana for ‘medical’ purposes is this: if it is such a ‘wonder drug’ it should be regulated, and available only via pharmacies and legitimate physicians, with the proper drug interactions and warnings reviewed with the patient.

Eva June 27, 2010, 12:01 AM

No responsible parent would even have this paraphernalia in the home? She should be ordered by the court to attend parenting classes and have random drug testing. How she could have thought this would be funny is beyond me. It’s time to “grow up” lady (and I use that term loosely)!!

Josh June 27, 2010, 5:09 AM

Lock her up and throw away the key and while you are at it why don’t we get that baby in rehab cause he obviously has a drug problem. Parading around in “Blood” colours, he’s a gangsta & I bet he is hooked on smack & crack too.

You people have too much time on your hands…..where are your kids now? Performing acts on strangers for crack I bet!
