Throw a Spelling Bee Party!

Alphabet Cookies

Make alphabet cookies for dessert! If you have time, order the cookies pre-made at Elenis

Otherwise, grab your favorite cookie mix and some alphabet cookie cutters (Wilton 50 Piece ABC & 123 Cookie Cutter Setat and make them from scratch with your kids!

Rent 'Spellbound'

If you haven't seen it -- you've got to rent it. If you've seen it -- it's worth watching again! "Spellbound" is a nationally recognized documentary following eight competitors in the 1999 Scripps National Spelling Bee.

For your party -- watch or use as background elements to set the perfect mood, before or after watching this year's "Bee!"

School-Themed Decorations

Turn your party room into a spelling bee-insprited classroom! Find your local teacher store and load up on school bulletin board sets, borders, charts, shapes and more -- to use as decorations.

This bulletin board set is available at

Ants on a Log

The menu for this Bee soiree should be all kids snacks -- and no one knows those better than mom!

Ants on a log is a must that's super easy -- and the kids can make themselves! Go to HomeBakedMemories for the recipe (even though we know you got it down).

Make Name Cards

Grab some poster board and string and make speller name cards.

You can make cards with the actual party attendee names or, if you've got the prep-time, see the list of Scripps finalists who will be participating in the national broadcast, and give everyone an actual speller's identity. This will give everyone at the party someone to root for!

Whoever wins, get a prize!

PB&J Sandwiches

We love a menu items that's cheap and the whole family can help make.

Make your PB&J's look gourmet by using cookie cutters. Also, check out these Critter Cutters.

Party Punch

Party punch for you, juice boxes for the kids!

There are tons of party punch recipes on the internet, Paula Deen's Southern Comfort Punch is a great place to start cruising for cocktails.

Stock Up On Index Cards

Every speller's secret weapon is an index card!

Grab a stack and write down words (check out lists at to conduct your own bee in-between commercial breaks.

Also, use the cards for table decorations!

Bumble Bee Party Decor

The great thing about this party is the color scheme is already set -- black and yellow! Perfect for Steelers fans or bee fanatics! Go with these colors for napkins, plates, forks, etc. all black and yellow.

Check your local party store for fun bumble bee party decorations

Use What You've Got

Your home is probably full of party decor perfect for this party - everything alphabet! From your fridge magnets and stacking blocks to your kids very own spelling books! Round up everything spelling-themed and use to display on your food table!

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (2005 Original Broadway Cast) [Cast Recording]

If your kids are older (16+) or you're having mostly adults at this party -- the original cast soundtrack will play great while you prepping your bee party or while guests arrive. Laugh out loud to songs like "Why We Like Spelling."

A powerful share, I just given this onto a colleague who was doing somewhat analysis on this. And he in reality bought me breakfast because I discovered it for him.. smile. So let me reword that: Thnx for the deal with! But yeah Thnkx for spending the time to discuss this, I really feel strongly about it and love reading more on this topic. If potential, as you turn into experience, would you thoughts updating your weblog with more particulars? It is extremely helpful for me. Large thumb up for this weblog submit!
