When food gets spoiled, you have no choice -- you gotta toss it. But when a kid is spoiled ... well, that's a different matter. A new reality show -- "You're Cut Off" -- attempts to help parents get their kids back on track without help from mommy and daddy's wallet.
Life coach Laura Baron, the star of the VH1 series, says that catering to our kids has become an epidemic -- and many parents spoil their children out of parental guilt. "Sometimes we give our kids too much because we don't want them to leave home," she says.
Allowance is NOT compensation for helping at home. Require your children to volunteer for a good cause. Deny privileges if chores are not done. Don't throw money at your kids if you want them to be independent. Don't overemphasize looks over your kids' character.
