Kate and Her Flock ... of Chickens?

Michelle Kemper Brownlow: I have enjoyed the new "Kate Plus 8," and Sunday's episode left me wanting more. I am a big Kate Gosselin fan -- not because she is famous, but because I admire her strength, her commitment to her kids and her resilience. I know I may get backlash for this post. I always cause a ruckus when I go pro-Kate, but when I watch the show, I see a mom doing a bang-up job raising some awesome kids!
I think I have enjoyed the new "Kate Plus 8" because of the almost audible sigh of relief you can see on her face and hear in her voice. Sure, she still gets annoyed at the kids or circumstances, but I don't sense that deep agitation she had in prior seasons in the big brown chair with the "loud breather" next to her.
Episode two highlighted the Gosselin's newest adventure: chickens! Kate's got a coop. For many episodes, we have watched Kate be conscious of what she feeds her brood -- all while saving her hard-earned pennies -- so it only makes sense that she would invest in a tiny farm (especially since the family can devour three dozen eggs a day). But the farm will only be inhabited by chickens. When Mady asked when they could get a cow, Kate responded, "When pigs fly!"
I felt there was an underlying theme in this past episode: work ethic. I watched as the little mini barn/coop raising was in progress and how the eight children pitched in and carried pieces of the structure off the truck. One of the boys started by simply grabbing the piece closest to the edge, and, like little army ants, the rest of the kids followed suit!
Not only did Kate help start construction on their new coop, she met with contractors about improving their privacy, learned about water softeners, had the house power-washed, corralled and fed eight kids, hosed down the picnic area after lunch, raced and giggled with the little ones as they romped through their back pasture and then proceeded to write "The Gosselin Household's Systems аnd Maintenance Manual: Everything a Single Mom Needs tο Know tο Rυn Oυr Lіttlе Piece οf thе World." Her energy is astounding!
"Done RIGHT, Done WELL, Done EFFICIENTLY and Done ONCE" ... that seems to be Kate's motto. And if you watched the show, you saw her children following closely in her footsteps.
So I applaud Kate -- a mom who doesn't put all her eggs in one basket!
Actually, I’m with you, my husband wanted to turn the channel he isn’t a Kate fan, and while I got annoyed with her during the “divorce” phase the new Kate is fantastic.
I was inspired!
Apparently you chose to miss the portions of the episodes where Kate is hen peckiing her children.
I watched the episode too with hopes that it would just focus on the kids… but there were SEVERAL shots that TLC used that I felt just highlighted a bitter DIVORCED mother that really didn’t treat her kids all that well.
If your going to spend your time watching Kate, then dont spend the rest of your time bashing her….have you walked a mile, or even a step in her shoes? probably not. We’ve all had trying times in life and she, just like most of us, is doing the very best she can and a lot better then many do…so, watch and love Kate, or go watch Gene Simmons Family Jewels!! (cuz he wont care what you say about him!)
Nothing is more admirable than the fortitude with which millionaires tolerate the disadvantages of their wealth.
Pay no attention to what the critics say… Remember, a statue has never been set up in honor of a critic!
Awesome post this will really help me.
I guess what I’m trying to say is, I don’t think you can measure life in terms of years. I think longevity doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with happiness. I mean happiness comes from facing challenges and going out on a limb and taking risks. If you’re not willing to take a risk for something you really care about, you might as well be dead.
