Sarah Palin Compares Moms to "Mama Grizzlies"

sign up for the momlogic newsletter Tweet This

In her new video (which has quickly gone viral), Sarah Palin says there's been a "mom awakening" in the last year and a half, wherein women are rising up and saying, "No, we've had enough already!" because moms "kind of just know when something's wrong."

She compares moms to "mama grizzly bears."

Do you find her message empowering ... or just the opposite?

wow this woman is a piece of work. NOT ONE BLACK OR HISPANIC PERSON in this ad. This had to be on purpose. How sick. SHE DOES NOT EMPOWER ME IN THE LEAST. In fact, she turns my stomach! Anyone who is “inspired” by this idiotic woman needs her head examined.

Shari July 9, 2010, 11:53 AM

I don’t find ANYTHING she says empowering or relevant. I think she is SUCH a bad example of a woman in politics/leadership. And, I consider myself a moderate conservative, so I don’t hate her just because she is a republican. I personally think she is just plain DUMB.

I don’t disagree with the momma-grizzly comment, I’ve often said myself that the most dangerous place to be is between a mother and her child. However, I don’t think Palin is inspiring, empowering, or even mildly intelligent. Just listen to the way she talks in the commercial. She doesn’t really seem to know what she’s saying.

I really like the ad. It is inspiring because they have tried to destroy Palin and conservatives and they have failed.
And stop playing the race card. I am sick of it

Great ad; and Sarah is inspiring, empowering and intelligent.
She has a impressive record of accomplishments.
I consider myself a independent and I will perhaps vote for Sarah Palin ( if she decides to run)
The media have ( and is still trying) to destroy Sarah Palin , but she is still standing strong because she is a very smart and courageous woman.

She never says what exactly moms are against. Or what moms are for.

We love Sarah! Dedicated, and getting attention for important issues. About the minority issue: would it be more PC to stage this with the proper percentages of all minorities? I teach my kids that what is important is character, not skin color. Liberals are so racist!

The comment is fine but unfortunately, she is no mother bear. Where was she when her underage daughter was having sex and getting pregnant. If you want to preach to people about conservative values then you better live by them.

chris July 9, 2010, 2:29 PM

You know, as parents you can teach your children about values - which I would hope that all parents do - but you can not control how your children will turn out. You see it everyday, good parents who kids turn out bad and bad parents who kids turn out good. I don’t understand how liberals who are so “unjudgemental” about how other people live their lives are always the first to judge when someone who tries to teach their kids good values have a kid who instead falls off the chosen path and choses to do their own thing. Isn’t that somewhat off? I’m raising my children with good old fashion values and I hope and pray that they get to adulthood without making any mistakes that could affect their lives but you know what if they make mistakes, I will be there for them and help them however I can. I’m sure like all mothers, Sarah wasn’t happy when her daughter got pregant but she stood by her and that is what real families do. Don’t judge others so harshly because you never know when you might find yourself in a situation like that.

Summer July 9, 2010, 2:37 PM

The problem is when she says mothers, she only means conservative mothers. Moms have been fighting for childcare, better schools, and food to help poor children for years. You know, all that socialism and anti-American stuff. *rolls eyes*

LOL July 9, 2010, 2:44 PM

Conservatives never judge other people!

phoenix July 9, 2010, 3:32 PM

Or another way to look at her response to her daughter’s pregnancy and her own at age 43 is that she followed her convictions and did not choose (or advise) abortion. Any mom knows that children grow up and start making their own decisions. There is a point in life when the child owns that decision she has made.

Matt July 9, 2010, 7:35 PM

First off, I’m Matt, i’m 16, and i’m a liberal.
There are so many things wrong with this it’s not even funny. I get women want a role model to look up to and i’m all for women’s rights, but not Palin. She is an ultra conservative nut job. Now I don’t judge people very often, but when I do it’s usually the one or more of the following A) Uber Conservatives, B)Stupid People, C)People without tolerance. I have a problem with uber conservatives because they seem to be under the impression that the bible has a place in politics and it doesn’t you ever hear of something called separation of church and state? Everyone is entitled to their beliefs, but when you create a political party based around those beliefs and want to change the government to ad hear to those beliefs it’s like you are forcing people to believe what you believe and that is wrong. Also they seem to be under the impression that it is alright for them to tell others what to do with their own bodies what with abortion and gay marriage but that is a whole other argument. Also they are hypocritical you have a comment that Conservatives don’t judge people, but several comments up people are judging the liberals calling them racist and what not, but they’re not the issue hear you ultra conservatives are. The other people I judge are the stupid people. I have 0 tolerance for stupidity and 0 sympathy for people who were hurt by doing something stupid. The last people that I judge are people with out tolerance of other people aka the uber conservatives. I understand that there are extremes on both sides of the political parties and if Palin was a liberal all the liberals would be commenting not the conservatives. It bothers me so much that you people can’t let two people who love and respect each other marry because it was written in some useless old book about a 2,000 year old Jewish zombie that you communicate with telepathically.

DEO July 9, 2010, 9:30 PM

Man, that was like a marshmallow in a snow storm!
Are those POLAR BEAR grizzlies, you know the really WHITE kind of bears????????

I think woman ARE going to decide things, but hopefully most woman, being the intelligent beings they are, will see through $arah’s transparent and manipulative little ploy.

sickoftheracecard July 10, 2010, 5:43 AM

I don’t find it empowering. Any intellectual person will empower themselves and not rely on external sources. I think the ad is just stating that women aren’t liking the undercurrent changes going on in this country and they’re standing up against it. I think that’s great! More power to them! The grizzly bear analogy is a true one.

The person who posted about race is just ridiculous though. Come on! Every single ad or public demonstration MUST be peppered with representatives from each and every ethnicity???!! Please! It seems that YOU are focused on ethnicity. Everyone is equal right? Women are women, right? So, quit pulling out the ‘race’ card ~ it’s SO OLD now.

Isn’t this just stealing from the “soccer mom” politic movement of the mid-1990’s? Not really original.
BTW - Bristol Palin stated in an interview that her mother, Sarah Palin never had the sex talk with her.
Sarah Palin, against standard medical advise, flies about 3200 miles over 8 hours of flight time from Alaska to Texas to attend a conference (when she could of sent her Lt Gov) when she was 7 1/2 months into a high risk pregnancy. Her water breaks. Instead of going immediately to the nearest hospital (premature labor, high risk pregnancy, over 40 mother) she decides to return to Alaska and then drive an additional 50 minutes to Wasilia’s hospital (not exactly the best neonatal unit in Alaska).
And if grizzly moms are so into protecting her children-how exacty did Sarah try to protect Trig’s very life? Or Bristol from making a a life altering mistake?
She IS a bad example.

Man, some of you people are so judgemental. I could take or leave Sarah Palin but the truth is that life never turns out the way you plan it and you need to make the best of what you do get. I can tell from many of you, that so far your life is still on track and perfect but one day you may have something happen that you weren’t expecting and I hope that you will have the tools to handle it b/c apparently life to many of you is either black or white with no shades of grey. It must be nice to have a perfect life with perfect parents, perfect siblings, perfect spouses and perfect children. For me, my life has had many ups and downs and surprises (some good and some bad) and with all that, I’ve learned not to be so quick to judge others b/c when it’s my turn, I hope not to be judged but sourrounded by family and friends who love me and support me. I think if everyone offered more compassion to everyone, our own lives would be better which in turn spreads out to other people. Just my 2 cents.

Pamala July 11, 2010, 1:41 PM

I don’t see anything wrong with the Mama Grizzly comment, cause I think most moms are like that. I think what bothered me was the implication that only those who are mothers are smart enough to be concerned about the issues. The ad focused so much on being a mother and that being a mother gave these candidates some sort of unique perspective. And I don’t believe that’s so.

papa grizzly July 12, 2010, 6:42 PM

So, when Sarah P referred to seeing grizzly bear moms rising up to protect their cubs, was it before or after she shot it in the head?
