WLWT: At least 14 injuries were reported when a Jac-Cen-Del school bus and dump truck collided in Ripley County on Monday morning.

School Bus

The crash happened on Indiana Highway 129 south of Indiana Road 350 just before 8 a.m. Superintendent William Narwold said there were 14 students on the bus at the time of the crash. The students ranged in age from 6 to 16, troopers said.

Troopers said the bus driver, Dorothy J. Huskey, 60, failed to yield to the dump truck as she crossed Highway 129. She suffered minor injuries. The dump truck driver, Matthew T. McQueen, 28, was treated for a head injury.

Ripley County dispatchers said the injuries appear to be minor. Indiana State Police Sgt. Noel Houze said a trooper on the scene described the hurt students were "walking injured."

Narwold said the students were transported to Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville. Four others were later taken to the hospital by their parents.

Troopers said most student injuries were complaints of pain, but there were a couple of students that required stitches for minor lacerations.

News 5's Alison Montoya said a parent told her that her son suffered a bruised lung and may stay overnight in the hospital.

Troopers said it was fortunate that the dump truck hit the engine compartment of the bus and not further back along the passenger compartment.
