$578 Million School Set to Open in Los Angeles

Robert F. Kennedy Community Schools opens its doors next month to 4,200 K-12 students. It cost $578 million to build, and is the costliest school in the United States.

Not everyone is happy about this -- especially given the current economic climate.

"New buildings are nice, but when they're run by the same people who've given us a 50 percent dropout rate, they're a big waste of taxpayer money," said Ben Austin, executive director of the coalition Parent Revolution, who sits on the California Board of Education. "Parents aren't fooled."

Do you think we should be building $500M schools in a recession?

I think we need to give MORE taxpayer money to the public school system, it’s worked so far.

Wow! Nice to know that some schools arent even getting enough funding to stay open 5 days a week, yet we can afford to build a 578 million dollar school. Talk about uneven distribution, thanks alot Obama! (Sarcasm)

Jessica, President Obama had nothing to do with this. Schools are a state issue and the federal government has nothing to do with the construction of this building. Blame the local and state leaders who approved this monster. I read that the costs were approved a few years ago - pre-recession - but I still find it hard to believe that the amount of money spent here for is justified. At 578 million dollars, that could work out to be half a million dollars spent for each student who is lucky enough to attend. And isn’t California going banktrupt? This could be one of the reasons why.

Schools are a state issue, but they also recieve federal funding, so yes the federal goverment plays a part.

Tough thing to say, we are in recession but Education shouldn’t be left behind, even if it means spending a a lot on building prime installations for prime education. Hard to say, but it is better than spending it in Kamagra Oral Jelly

Thanks for the post. My spouse and i have always noticed that most people are needing to lose weight simply because wish to appear slim and attractive. Having said that, they do not usually realize that there are additional benefits for losing weight also. Doctors say that obese people are afflicted with a variety of health conditions that can be instantly attributed to their own excess weight. The great news is that people who definitely are overweight and suffering from numerous diseases can help to eliminate the severity of their own illnesses through losing weight. It is possible to see a progressive but identifiable improvement with health while even a slight amount of weight-loss is accomplished.
