Dina Lohan, a Model of Honesty?

Dr. Wendy Walsh: During her "Today" interview with Matt Lauer, Lindsay Lohan's mother, Dina, promised that Lindsay will speak for herself when she is released from the rehab that followed her two-week prison term. Dina assured Matt, "I've taught [Lindsay] to be ... very honest and open, and you will all make your own judgment of her."

Uh, Dina, what was that you said about honesty? In this interview alone, you -- as the mama role model -- told three blatant lies on national television. First, you argued with Matt over how many times Lindsay has been in rehab. His notes said four; you claimed only two (counting the current one). Dina, here's Lindsay's real rehab scorecard: Wonderland (2007), Promises (2007), Cirque Lodge (2007) and UCLA Medical Center (2010). That adds up to four times, per our calculator. 

Then, when Matt asked you about your reputation as a party mom and stage mom, you acted confused, saying, "What's a 'stage mom'? I grew up in the business."



Fact check, Dina: Back in 2007, you told Harper's Bazaar that you introduced yourself as Lindsay's personal assistant rather than her mother, and you bragged about partying with your daughter, saying, "If you can button it and clip it when you're in your 40s, you're going out." 

Finally, you told Matt that you weren't pushing your youngest daughter, Ali (16), into the limelight next. You told him he was wrong to say that she has a website that calls her -- and I quote -- a "future superstar." "Ali doesn't even have a website," you said. Dina, anyone with a keyboard can prove you wrong -- and here's the link.

Overall, the live NBC interview (scheduled, I assume, in an attempt to put your family in a better light) showed you as someone who deflects responsibility. You blamed tabloid journalism and a "hardball" judge for Lindsay's woes, never once showing any shame, remorse or even deep concern for your daughter's reputed drug and alcohol problems. Your defensiveness gave me pause, and it broke my heart. 

Dina, a little advice here: You would win the public's compassion if you showed us a more vulnerable and honest side of your family tragedy. As for me, I can't wait to hear Lindsay's "honesty" when she gets out of rehab.
