DailyMail: It's not your standard mother and son day out.

While some sons may choose to take their mother shopping or for a nice lunch, Vince Vaughn decided to treat his mum to a much more stimulating experience - jumping out of an airplane 12,500 feet above the ground.

Vaughn and his mother Sharon were part of the opening act at the Air and Water Show in Chicago.

The pair jumped tandem, each strapped to a member of the U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute team, with the 40-year-old Wedding Crashers star taking the plunge first, followed closely by his mum.

They jumped out over Lake Michigan, making a perfect landing and hugging each other once they were both safely back on land again.

Vaughn was clad in a bright yellow jumpsuit as he landed on his feet at North Avenue Beach.

According to the Chicago Tribune Vaughn wasn't feeling well on the plane due to the high altitude, but was smiling after he landed.

He also signed autographs and posed for pictures with fans.

'That was the first time for both of us,' Vaughn said afterwards. 'That's not exactly our hobby.'

When asked who was more nervous out of the couple, Vaughn's mother insisted: 'We weren't nervous, we were more excited.'

The actor grew up in Lake Forrest, just outside of Chicago, and currently lives in the city with his wife, real estate broker Kyle Weber.

The couple, who married in January, announced in July that they are expecting their first child together.

Vaughn has been filming in Chicago all summer, working on The Dilemma, a new Ron Howard movie also starring Kevin James, Jennifer Connelly, Winona Ryder, Channing Tatum and Queen Latifah.

He seems so much happier now that he’s no longer with Jennifer Aniston.
