Celeb Kids Dress Like Adults. Why?

sign up for the momlogic newsletter Tweet This

Angry Mom: Willow Smith, the 9-year-old daughter of actors Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith, dresses like she's in her 20s! She isn't even a tween yet, and already she's sporting multicolored Rihanna-esque hair, leopard-print clothes and thigh-high boots with heels.

Willow Smith
Willow and Jada were spotted at Milan fashion week wearing coordinated outfits, much like Will and Jada do when they hit the red carpets together. Even though there's definitely something to be said for expressing yourself, this just seems to be TOO MUCH for a 9-year-old.

We've seen some of the same types of stuff on Suri Cruise, the 4-year-old daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. (Little Suri often wears heels when she walks around New York City.) But Willow has taken "dressing older" to a whole new level. WTH?!

Would you let your 9-year-old wear thigh-high boots with heels?

It’s pretentiousness pure and simple. Are these kids spoiled? Take a guess.

Kids, especially celeb kids, are growing up in the information age & have access to whatever their hands can type into google. The world is all around them. Why can’t a 9yr old have her own style? Wake up, it’s 2010. Some kids are running corporations. 12yr olds are going to college. A 10yr old child is selling fingerpaintings for hundreds of dollars. 4yr olds have cell phones. Infants are being entered into beauty contests. WTH are YOUR kids doing 2 take advantage of the things we didnt have when we were younger? Stop being so closed-minded and think outside the box. I could see if the little girl were naked or something but clearly she has a passion for clothes. She could own her own line one day. More mothers should support their children’s gifts and offer their direction instead of their ignorance.

Jane, I really hope all the things you said aren’t true. (Seriously, what 4-yr-old has a CELL PHONE??) But assuming that they are, just because something is available doesn’t mean it’s appropriate for a child. Children should get to be children. No one should EXPECT a 12-yr-old to run a corporation or a 9-yr-old to dress like she’s 20. We live in the technology age, yes. Times have changed, but children are still children & should be permitted to BE children. Next, we’ll be sneering at a kindergardener that is just learning to read, saying snidely, “Why didn’t she learn that in preschool? She must be slow. She’ll never be running her own company by the time she’s 12!” When we start demanding more & more of our children before they even hit middle school, it’s a slippery slope.

Lisa R. thats why the children in the U.S. are slowly but surely digressing. What we think is too much or too pressuring for our fragile and precious children, in other countries, it’s the standard. I’m not by any means saying that parents should be drill sargeants & not allow their children to enjoy childhood. But you can’t blatantly ignore the kind of world that OUR GENERATION has left behind for our children.

im not a mom, but i have 4 nieces nd two goddaugthers who are between the ages of one and 11. I would never let my them wear something so “GROWN” looking as these celeb parents let their children wear. i feel that nine year old should act and dress like a nine year old and not like “GROWN” adult.

This page appears to recieve a great deal of visitors. How do you get traffic to it? It offers a nice individual spin on things. I guess having something real or substantial to talk about is the most important factor.
