Feds Find that Pampers Don't Cause Rash

Guest blogger Ronda Kaysen: A federal investigation into Pampers Dry Max diapers did not find a link between the new line of diapers and diaper rash, investigators said today.
When Proctor and Gamble unveiled its new diapers last spring, they unleashed the wrath of angry parents who complained that the new, slimmer diapers caused diaper rash so severe that some compared it to chemical burns. Outraged parents called for a Dry Max boycott on a Facebook fan page that is now 11,400 members strong. From April through August 2010, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission received nearly 4,700 complaints about diaper rash, thus sparking an official investigation. Nearly 85 percent of the complaints came in May; after that, they dropped off significantly.
Investigators reviewed clinical and toxicological data, the results of an irritation-patch study that P&G had conducted and chemistry, toxicology and pediatric-medicine information provided by Health Canada.
In the end, the investigators found no clear link between diaper rash and Dry Max. But the CPSC did note that some babies may have sensitive skin or develop a rash from close contact with the materials in Dry Max or another brand of diapers. The agency suggests that any parent who thinks that a specific brand of diaper is causing a rash should switch brands.
Ive used Pampers from day 1 and my son is now 13 months. No crazy rash/burns on his bottom though. Parents just need to change diapers when they get soiled and not think that oooh is dry max I can leave it on longer since it keeps him dry longer.
My DD gets a rash when we use Luvs but not with any other brand, so we just dont use Luvs. We tried it once, she got a rash but it was summer so we waited a few mths and tried them again in the fall, she got a rash again so we knew that it was something in that style diaper that made the rash, she would only have the diaper on for maybe an hour or so and be all red and irritated. Some diapers irritate some kids and others dont, just change the brand and move on LOL
I totally agree with the above comments. Keep your baby clean and dry, if there is still irritation, change brands. Common sense???
I ran a family day care for 10 years & have had many different diaper brands come thru. Some kids are more sensitive, so change brands. I had a “No Rash Policy” Your child will not come home with a diaper rash from day care so please try not to get one over the weekend. I have also had parents ask me not to change the diaper as often(their going thru them too fast). Sorry a “wet” diaper gets changed! No matter what. Of course a few showed up with rashes on Monday morning but it was usually the parents asking why I go thru so many in the week.
Diapers aren’t cheap but a rash hurts!
You don’t know what you are talking about saying all of us with this problem is because we dont change our kids diapers. So I suppose you are the perfect Mom because your kid didn’t get this horrible burn like thousands did. Wow just be glad it didnt happen to you and your baby isnt screaming everytime they urinate or finding the mesh in the new swaddlers for newborns actually peeling off your babies skin. why don’t you think about what you say.
Just because they haven’t “identified the link” between Dry Max and these chemical burns our babies have suffered doesn’t mean the link isn’t there. The CPSC (and other agencies like it) have protection track records that are “spotty” at best… Look it up! You won’t have to look far… from baby cribs, & car seats to Celebrex, lettuce, & dog food! Oh, I forgot to mention the latest disaster: eggs, anyone?
