Justin Bieber Takes Up 3 Percent of Twitter Servers

MSN: There's a hot new Internet rumor about that Justin Bieber kid -- and unlike the syphillis and unlikely dating matches, this one is probably accurate. Yesterday popular design blogger Dustin Curtis tweeted this bit of inside information:
"At any moment, Justin Bieber uses 3% of our infrastructure. Racks of servers are dedicated to him. - A guy who works at Twitter"
As tech news site Mashable points out, the Bieb regularly tops Twitter Trends and Twitter's Most Listed charts every week. And while Curtis wouldn't identify the employee that gave him the inside info, and Twitter wouldn't confirm the count, a spokesperson for the microblogging service did tell Mashable, "While we don't break out metrics like this, everything around and about Justin Bieber is consistently popular on Twitter."
According to Curtis's math, the numbers add up: "Every time Bieber tweets, his messages have to be delivered to more than five million people who then endlessly retweet it. Apparently, his account receives more than 60 @-replies per second for a while after he tweets, which is something Twitter wasn't originally designed to handle."
So the next time Twitter's over-capactiy Fail Whale makes an appearance, you know who to blame.
