West Nile Virus Found In Connecticut

wpix: The Department of Public Health confirmed Friday that two Connecticut residents were diagnosed with the West Nile Virus. The two residents, of Bridgeport and Stamford, were hospitalized for encephalitis but were later diagnosed as having the West Nile Virus.

There have been five other reported cases in Connecticut this year in Bridgeport, Greenwich, New Haven, Stamford and Trumbull.

After tests the West Nile Virus has been detected in 19 Connecticut towns this year.

The West Nile Virus is transmitted by mosquitoes that have bitten infected birds, sometimes causing serious illness including encephalitis or meningitis.
