Brooke Burke is a gorgeous TV host, dancing superstar and mommy blogger who has now teamed up with Oral-B to make a huge difference in the lives of kids with dental-health issues. How does she do it all? We got the scoop ....

Brooke Burke

Oral-B and "Dancing with the Stars" host Brooke Burke have teamed up to advance the oral health of kids around the world. Oral-B Premium Power toothbrushes are donating $25,000 to Operation Smile, a worldwide children's medical charity that provides free surgeries for children with cleft lips and cleft palates. We recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Brooke and got the scoop on all things "Dancing," her kids, her crazy-busy life and her new book ....

momlogic: OK, Brooke, we want the scoop: Of all the judges and hosts, who spends the most time in the makeup chair on "Dancing with the Stars"?

Brooke Burke: Definitely me. I don't know how much time Carrie Ann spends in there. It's makeup and it's hair and then it's styling and then changes. It's so intense. What you think might look good in life or on the red carpet sometimes doesn't work on TV. I start hair and makeup at 11 AM and we go till live. It's not just that I'm sitting there, but there's so much that goes on behind the scenes of that show.

ml: How close to you get to the contestants each season?

BB: I think because I danced and because I really know what they're going through, I always like one-on-ones to tell them, "I am here for you. I remember how difficult it really is." So I have a very intimate time with them back there. But I don't see them outside of the show unless it's a random social event.

ml: What do you teach your girls about being successful women?

BB: My mom was a working mom, and my kids know that I work and I really try to teach them about life in that way. You have to work hard and make sacrifices. It's about values. It's about making a commitment to things you believe in. For me, it's about being kind and respectful and being honest.I was really close to my own mom. My mom taught me to be a mom. And I value that so much. And it's a struggle every day.

ml: What do you teach your girls about the importance of beauty inside and out?

BB: It's tough, because I'm in the industry and I'm at home in my sweats and a ponytail all day. And then I go to work and get all dolled up. My 3-year-old wants makeup.I really let them know how important it is to be healthy and to be natural and how fun it is to play dress-up. I talk about being healthy, not being skinny. I teach them healthy eating habits. I teach them to take care of their bodies. I make sure just because of my industry we spend more time talking about the inside than the outside. It's tricky.

ml: Is it hard not to be self-critical in front of your kids?

BB: I make sure that I don't. I think that, as mothers, when we have little girls they watch everything we do and say and imitate everything they pick up. I am very conscious of it. I can maybe bitch about my hairstylist and makeup artist, about the wrinkles and the swollen eyes, but I never do it in front of my kids.

ml: We hear you have a new book coming out. When will it be released?

BB: February! It's called "The Naked Mom" -- motherhood revealed. It's a rare reflection of my role as a mother and businesswoman and lover. It's exciting. It's similar to the same voice that I blog in. It's not a guide. It's not a balance. I don't believe in balance. My life is freaking crazy and chaotic. It's been an amazing experience.

ml: Considering the sad news last week of six gay teenagers driven to suicide by bullies -- and many of them hiding their sexuality from their parents -- have you discussed sexuality with your children?

BB:I have a lot of gay people in my life just in the industry, and my girls -- now at 8 and 10 -- are starting to ask questions. And even shows like "Glee" ... there is so much of it open in pop culture. I make it clear that people like different things and everyone can choose what they want to choose in life. Some parents make it really complicated. I speak honestly and very factually with my children at all ages. I always want them to be able to talk to me. I don't shelter them. We live in a world where they're exposed to everything.

ml: Did you always know you wanted to be a mom?

BB: I always knew I wanted to be a mom. I thought I would be a young mom and I thought I would be a stay-at-home mom. I am surprised I waited as long as I did.

Hello, - spotted your current web-site by pure luck whilst wandering round the internet this afternoon, and pleased that I did! I like the structure and different shades, but I should mention that I’m having problems when it loads. I’m using OmniWeb45 internet browser for mac, and the side panel will not line up nicely. i am convinced applied an identical layout on a company’s online site, but the menu seems O.k on mine. I think the problem is at this end and I’m guessing today’s the day to switch!
