Thrift-Store Finds for Halloween

I've managed to rustle up quite a few over the years. A Pee-wee Herman suit for my husband. A hunter's outfit for myself. The list goes on. The best part about Halloween is using your imagination, and what's better than walking into a store and sorting through aisles of clothes to make your perfect costume? Looks like all those years of playing dress-up as a kid are paying off ....
I'll tell you this: It takes a lot more creativity than buying one of those pre-made costumes that come out of a bag. And really, are those costumes even really that good? I'm sticking to my self-made costumes theory, and heading out to Goodwill this evening in search of three pirate costumes for our family. And I will succeed.
Moms, which are better: self-made costumes, or the ones you buy at the store? Wait -- before you answer, check out this cute Halloween-themed Goodwill ad:

Store bought costumes are crap!

Hello there, - found this site by chance while looking around the web this morning, and pleased that I did! I do like the design and colorings, but I need to point out that I’m having trouble when it loads. I’m making use of Netscape 8 internet browser for mac, and the menu block fails to line up the right way. i’m convinced I’ve applied an equivalent design on a client’s internet site, but the menu seems O.k. on mine. I suspect the fault is with my outdated browser & I guess it’s time to switch!

You start off, “I’m not cheap.” I start off, I AM cheap. Not only do I buy mt children’s costumes at thrift stores, I buy all their clothes as thrift stores. This year, my kids are going as Mario characters (from the video game.) Their costumes cost $6, $4 and $4, and that includes a couple accessories I bought at Dollar Tree. When I buy them regular clothes, I try not to pay more than $2 an item. T-shirts can be had for fifty cents. Shoes, I’ve gotten anywhere from 25 cents to $3. Aside from the already outrageously low prices, I do my shopping on “Family Day” when all the clothes are half off. I don’t know why more people don’t do this. Maybe it’s the “ew factor?” Have I seen some less-than-perfect things at the thrift store? Sure. Do I have to buy them? Nope. I’ve even found things with the tags still on them. Kids outgrow clothes before they can out-wear them. And this way, when my kids inevitably spill juice on their shirts, or get grass stains on their pants, I don’t care, because I didn’t spend a fortune. If you’re a mom looking to save a TON of money, I say be open to thrift stores.
