MyFoxNY: Toyota announced Thursday a safety recall of more than 1.5 million vehicles to fix a brake fluid leak that it warned could gradually diminish braking performance, a spokesman said.
The automaker was set to voluntarily recall about 740,000 vehicles in the U.S., 17,481 in the U.K., 30,000 in Australia and 600,000 in Japan. It was also recalling 50,000 autos in Europe, 60,000 in China, and 50,000 in other Asian nations, said a Toyota spokesman in Japan.
In the U.S., the recall will include the 2005-2006 Avalon, 2004-2006 non-hybrid Highlander, Lexus RX330 and the 2006 Lexus GS300, IS250 and IS350 vehicles, according to a press release issued late Wednesday in California.
In the U.K., Toyota launched two separate recalls -- the first regarding the brake master cylinder fitted to Lexus IS, GS and RX models built between February 2003 and November 2005, and the second regarding the fuel pump on GS300 models built between September 2004 and February 2006, a statement released Thursday in the U.K. said.
