Recession Mama Michele Ashamalla: I love going to the movies, and I've noticed quite a few deals recently for movie ticket vouchers. They were on Groupon in various cities, and also on similar sites such as Living Social and Tippr. I checked them out, and they all seemed to be coming from a site called WeeklyCinema.com. When I went on the site, I saw that it was a club that required monthly payment. Generally, I shy away from those sites, but this one required no time commitment and allows you to cancel at any time with no penalty.

The deal is a good one when everything works out.
You need to make sure your local theaters ticket with Fandango or MovieTickets.com. Also you need to check if they accept promo codes (I think all Fandango theaters do, MovieTickets.com indicates on theater page if they take the promo codes).
The tickets from your plan don’t roll over month to month, but once you’ve claimed them for promo codes to Fandango or MovieTickets.com, they’re good for 90 days (Fandango may be longer, if you check the promo code on their site)
The $14 code also covers the fees charged by Fandango and MovieTickets.com (varies from $1-$2) and if your movie ticket + fee costs more than $14, you simply pay the rest.
I’m not a subscriber (yet), but I’ve purchased several of the ticket bundles to use. I’ve seen several movies in the last couple weeks and saved a lot of money. I plan on using them to get midnight show tickets to Harry Potter 7 come November.
There are the occasional hiccups with the site (for example at this minute it is down) and there have been some “glitches” or issues with getting codes for MovieTickets.com. But I have been one satisfied customer so far.

Weekly Cinema just changed their policies; it’s no longer “up to $14”, it’s “up to $10”. That’s probably why they’ve dropped their prices!
So since a typical ticket costs about $11 (here in Baltimore, at least, with IMAX & 3D going for $14-$15), you’ll be paying a few bucks on top of that initial monthly fee.
It’s still a pretty decent deal, just wanted to let you all know. :)
And now suddenly it’s not such a good deal as Weekly Cinema has ceased operation. Just how much money did they take in on their website (and through deal websites) and now the party’s over.
