Recession Mama Michele Ashamalla: I love going to the movies, and I've noticed quite a few deals recently for movie ticket vouchers. They were on Groupon in various cities, and also on similar sites such as Living Social and Tippr. I checked them out, and they all seemed to be coming from a site called WeeklyCinema.com. When I went on the site, I saw that it was a club that required monthly payment. Generally, I shy away from those sites, but this one required no time commitment and allows you to cancel at any time with no penalty.
The deal is $16.99 for three tickets per month, $19.99 for four tickets per month, $24.99 for five tickets per month or $29.99 for six tickets per month. Also, you get one free ticket just for signing up! You get the free ticket immediately, and your other tickets three days later. The next set arrives thirty days after your initial signup. The tickets come in the form of codes to be used on Fandango.com or MovieTickets.com. The codes have to be redeemed on Fandango.com or MovieTickets.com during the month they were issued. After redemption, you have 90 days to use them at the theater.
The tickets can be used at practically all theaters (check Fandango.com and MovieTickets.com to make sure your favorites are there). They don't have any restrictions, so you should be able to use them even on the first day of a new release, and also for 3D movies, which is a fantastic deal. (Those tickets sell for $14 around here, so $5 a ticket is a real steal!)
For years, I've passed up book and music clubs that require you to purchase lots of overpriced stuff after getting a couple of items for a few bucks, but I think this is finally a club where I'm willing to take the plunge. I couldn't find too many reviews from members, though. If there are any of you out there, can you tell us what you think?
