momlogic's Julie: Lisa Rinna lets viewers into her lip reduction surgery on the season finale of "Harry Loves Lisa" Wednesday at 10PM/9C on TV Land. Here, she talks to momlogic about the surgery, reality TV and how she keeps her marriage hot.
momlogic: Why did you choose to do a reality show with your family now?
Lisa Rinna: We did the show because Harry and I wanted to work together and we could work with our family at home, spending lots of time together. It seemed right to do at this time in our lives. We wanted to create a show that hearkened back to "I Love Lucy."
ml: How do you keep your marriage so hot after all these years?
LR: We work hard at keeping our marriage hot. I make an effort, which I think we all have to do. Whatever turns you on between two consenting adults, I say, "Go for it!" Don't be afraid to get your freak on! We tour all of the hotels, too. Makes it fun and exciting and allows us space for intimacy to happen. You have to take time away from the kids. You have to!
ml: We heard you had lip reduction surgery -- how are you doing?
LR: Yes, I did have scar reduction surgery on my upper lip back in late August. I am healing nicely. It takes up to six months for the final result. I'm so glad I did it. It feels so much better! I did it for me. I no longer wanted to be defined by my lips.
momlogic: What is your number-one parenting tip or trick that you can pass along to our readers?
LR: Listen to your kids. Think of this: Put invisible duct tape on your mouth and just listen! Also, you don't need to be your kids' best friend. You need to be their parent. I try to be really present with my kids when I'm with them ... not thinking about the grocery list, errands I need to run, etc., etc.; just to be there in the moment. Hard sometimes, but so important. Also, when my kids come into the room or come home from school, I make sure I drop whatever I'm doing in that moment and show them how excited I am to see them. I think it's so important to acknowledge them in those moments -- really see them and celebrate them!
