My Midwife Crisis

Anonymous: I've been going through something lately. I'm restless and bored. I got a new haircut and started that ridiculously difficult P90X workout. I've been text-flirting with a coworker. And I almost made an impulse MINI Cooper Convertible purchase last week, even though I'm not quite sure my family would even fit inside of it.

I've been trying to put my finger on what the hell to call what I've been feeling for the last year. Is it a midlife crisis? Um, no -- I'm not even 40! I started calling it a "quarter-life crisis" ... until my best friend gently let me know that ship had sailed quite a few years ago. Then, while watching "Sex and the City 2" last week (yes, I realize I am the last person on Earth to see it), I heard Carrie coin a term that I knew fit my situation perfectly: "midwife crisis." 

I must admit that, although I was happy my girl Carrie had given my condition a name, I didn't have much sympathy for her. She's bored with Big after two years and no kids?! C'mon! She had chased after him for years! But I didn't want to judge too much -- maybe a midwife crisis can affect the Carries of the world just as much as someone like me, who has been married for over ten years and has two children and now suddenly wants to take up skydiving and get a tummy tuck. 

Even though I've diagnosed the problem, I have absolutely no idea how to get past it. But hey, at least I know what to call it now. Moms: Any advice?

A large percentage of of the things you claim is astonishingly legitimate and that makes me ponder why I had not looked at this with this light before.
