Vitamin D: Are You Deficient?

Guest blogger JJ Virgin: In a culture that is rightly obsessed with protecting fragile skin from the sun's damaging rays, we're likely allowing our vitamin D storehouses to dwindle. In fact, vitamin D deficiency is quickly becoming one of the most problematic health threats for both adults and children.
I agree. Avoiding sunburn is, of course, important - burning is damaging. The best way to do that is with a natural tan. Only a few minutes of sunshine a day will help you naturally produce Vitamin D in doses much higher than any supplement you could take. And what could be more natural than the sun?
I hope this message will finally reach the masses and one day help improve the health of our country!

Your skin is really not fragile. Everyone should avoid sunburning but casual exposure is natural and your body expects it. Vitamin D production has been around for 750 million years and is vital to our existence. To say that the sun is bad for you is akin to saying the sky is falling. Every cell in your body has a vitamin D receptor and when you are deficient many different health issues can affect you. That’s why you may hear so many varied illnesses that vitamin D deficiency is related to.
