I too learned that 80% of what we learn is through our eyes. I’m the School Nurse for Azusa Unified School District, and just finished a Master’s Thesis in Nursing titled: ‘Inadequate Resources and Social Support after Vision Testing of Students’. My school district consists of 17 schools and over ten-thousand school children. Each year, I am state-mandated to test the vision of over 4,000 students in our school district and each year - over 500 students fail their vision assessment. If the children can’t see, they cannot learn. I’ve exhausted every avenue possible to obtain eye glasses for my students. Recently, I’ve partnered with a local optometrist to provide a vision assessment and a pair of eye glasses at a reduced rate. I have also written a grant which I would be happy to share with you.

If I win I would like the money to be donated to the Community School of Davidson

As we become older, it is important to get your eyes examined. especially if diabetes and high blood pressure run in a family. Our Lady of Loretto Elementary School, located on Union Avenue in Los Angeles, surely would benefit the help.
An optometrist can see symptoms of diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and other diseases just by doing a thorough eye exam. The younger vision is checked the better. Sunrise Elementary School in Chaparral, NM desperately needs to support our children with eye health issues in this very poor area. These kids need and deserve all the help they can get.

I never realized the key to looking good in your glasses is to buy frames that contrast with the shape of your face. I hope this entry gets selected because McGarity Elementary school in Hiram, GA would put the funds to great use as this school is a frequent contributor to needy families and more!
I learned that from reg. exams doctors can tell high blood pressure and diabetes. Some school disticts have lost funding because of economic conditions of where they live so families can’t afford higher taxes for their schools.
