koco: A pregnant mother could spend her Christmas in jail and family members hope her release will be their gift this year.

Mary Farrell is fighting to get her pregnant mother, Cheyeen Heatherly, out of jail.

"I went to court with her last night and they just took her straight to jail for $149 -- for a speeding ticket," said Farrell.

Farrell said her mom didn't have the money and asked for an alternate option for payment.

"It's just unbelievable how they can do that to someone without revoking their license -- offering a payment plan, no time arrangement," Farrell said. "The judge was very specific; the last time he gave a time arrangement was six-and-a-half years ago."

Farrell said her mother wasn't the only one that with whom the judge was strict. She said she saw the same thing happen to others that night.

"Everyone that's going through there is pretty much going to jail. If you don't have the money, you're going to jail," said Farrell.

Farrell said after she pawned off her dad's tools to scrape up the money, she paid the court and is waiting for her mother's release.
